Daytona SS Zenith U-Series
Seeing some eye-watering prices on-line for U series Daytona SS at the moment - some even more expensive than inverted 6´s and Patrizzi's.
They all seem to be early versions without SEL and non-Luminova. Is there a consensus that these are more valuable over later U series with SEL and Luminova dials? |

Even with the scarce amounts of the lumi zeniths made compared to the tritiums....i would say yes they are. I have a 15628 lumi u serial and am glad I got it when I did.

Ok thanks. So the rarer version is less sought after then?

U serial Daytonas, especially white tritium dials should be the most common ones around so there is no reason they should fetch higher prices than inverted 6 or patrizzis. Now I've seen some full set NOS that might have sold for higher. and if I recall correctly, those were all U serial because by the time these were produced, Daytona fever was in full effect and I'm sure some were put away just for this purpose.

Tritium fever is alive and well. Tritium is preferred over lumi for the 1652x's overall. My 16528 is a tritium....not a lumi....it was early when I responded.

Many thanks for your answers.
I was just a little curious, as there are three U series black face tritiums non SEL, on a certain well-known site, selling for at least the double of what i paid for a U series black face luminova with SEL a year ago! |

with the intro of the new ceramic daytona, the model 1652X got a surge as it was now 3 models removed from production.....plus it is cool as hell. last year prices hiked by 50%. nice work on yours.

For some reason I noticed A and P series were actually pricier than earlier series.
A "patrizzi" or very early (R,L,E,X,N) with inverted 6 would be pricier though. To me logically it makes more sense for tritium to have the premium, even though the actual tritium in the indices in this case is not really too relevant, but maybe its because of the SELs in the A/P series, or is it because they were the last series before the reference would discontinue? Personally when I was hunting for one, I went for what came first(at "relatively" honest price for market) in the most incredible condition I could find. Condition makes me happier than hype or what is more "sought after" for minute differences ! :D |

I believe every seller with a black face Zenith Daytona is jumping on Patrizzi dial fad. When you've seen a real Patrizzi you'll see the difference. Asking price is just that.
