Help on first buy - 6084 model

Hello everyone, first of all I'm happy to join this community.
This watch was offered for 800 dollars to me by a friend, it was from his grandpa. I've read many posts here about buying my first Rolex and you were really helpful. The model is a 6084 and the serial number starting with 944xxx dates it to 1954 from what I learned. The watch is quite worn and doesnt have the original band but it was still working, although it stops from time to time so you have to shake it a bit (but I'm afraid of doing that), I guess it's because of dust inside the case but i'll take it to a watchmaker for more details, also the crown isnt screwing all the way down as you can see in the pictures.

The thing is: I'm not a specialist so I dont know if 800 bucks is a good or bad price for this watch, also I can't be sure if it's a original piece or a fake and if the problems on the mechanisms stopping working from time to time are something to be worried.

So I'm here to ask your opinion on this purchase,
Thanks alot!

Here are some high res pictures:

The crown screws exactly as it is supposed to. Much to the chagrin of some natives.

They do NOT necessarily screw down and touch the case and in fact if they touch the case there is a potential to not seal. This case originally came with a super oyster crown and was later fitted with a screw tube and screw crown...this one very early on as one can see by the +. The tube is what it is and the crown is what it is. In this era the crown gaskets were lead and thinner than the current rubber gaskets also. The seal is made between the end of the tube and the opposing flat inside the crown with the flat rubber gasket in between the 2 surfaces, and also between the hole in the tube gasket inside the tube and the shank of the crown that goes through the case. It's how they are. Especially on older watches. Rolex makes the tube. Rolex makes the crown. That's how they fit.

Other than the alteration from Super to twin lock the watch looks good. Price is excellent I would say though we can't really see the condition of the dial but it appears to be original with SWISS at the bottom as it would for post 53 watch.

I wouldn't recommend wearing this watch without a service as I have mentioned many times the nature of the automatic mechanism is such that with out substantial lubricant in the area of the rotor arbor spring and double clutch spring on the ratchet wheel, these parts are prone to breakage and expensive to replace.

That being said, these watches must be wound fully by hand before you attempt to wear them. The autowind would have a difficult time, especially if it is dry, winding the watch completely from a dead stop. They were not made to do so. It has been a while since it was serviced as it seems to have a neoprene or nylon hard gasket at the back.

It can make a very nice watch I think.
