Gen. David Patraeus 1680 on ebay
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Excellent-Vint...%257Ciid%253A2
Thought this was a cool find. It's a 3 mil red serial sub (unfortunately with white service dial). Comes with papers, he purchased it as a cadet. I'm not sure the premium resulting from its "celebrity" status will be realized?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cool piece of history if it was really his. I think all the replacement parts and polishing diminish its value greatly. Probably worth less than 6K without his name attached.
It would still be cool to own. |

I'm friends with his brother-in-law. I just forwarded him the listing. I'll let you know what he says.

That's a good idea to validate this auction. I did the same a while back for a driver who had won the 24 Hours of Daytona and had his winning watch on eBay. BTW, IMHO the price isn't really supported for future value unless the General writes something meaningful as part of the provenance. Just saying I owned this Sub might work for some, but saying I wore this during xxx missions, etc. makes a huge difference. Consider General Patton's Tiffany & Co Patek Phillippe... https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/Ge...Patek-Philippe ImageUploadedByTapatalk1469757782.746941.jpg And the accompanying story makes it all the more special...

Pretty cool, with confirmation

Does that make a $4,000 Seamaster worth $3,000? Can you provide provenance? "Watch was worn during Fat Leonard investigation"

looks like he wore it in battle. that said i cant justify the price. 20k for something worth 3-4 times less.

Is this a silly question......Is it still a "Red Sub" if it no longer has the original Red Sub Dial, but now sports a white service dial replacement?
Wouldn't this be the same as purchasing a vintage Corvette that was white in color, but the Ser# or build sheet indicates that it came from the factory with red paint. At the end of the day, your still just buying a white Corvette. |

It is no longer a "red sub" without that which makes it rare and (more) valuable and, well, red.

Agree, the value is a 70s sub with service parts - plus - value added by the original owner rather than a 70s RED sub with original vintage parts - plus - value added by the original owner
