i flew spirit back in 2004 when the jets were newer and the service was decent. now they are an ultra discount brand with terrible experience. sadly
"On March 6, 2007, Spirit began a transition to an ultra low-cost carrier."

I've only flown Spirit twice, and both times it was to Vegas on short notice. Cost was less than half of Southwest or any other carriers flying out of the SF Bay Area. I knew from doing a bit of research what to expect in terms of nickel and diming for things that are standard with other carriers. Worked out fine, but if I have some advance notice/planning, I'd fly with other carriers for around the same price.
