Incoming Explorer 2 Phantom Hand

Morning all...

A new member of the family arrived today, and a welcome addition to the collection, which I've wanted to add for some time.

A deal came up too good to miss, and despite a couple of other Recent Rolex additions, I took the plunge on this....

A Rolex Explorer II 216570....

The Steve McQueen, the Spelunker, call it what you will, to my eye it has always been a beautifully crafted, modern yet retro designed classic in a class of its own, setting it apart from the usual run of GMT's and Sub's, and is a better watch for staying true to its 1970's heritage.

Love them or hate them, the Phantom hands on this watch really work well to my eye. A very unique design cue of the face on this black dial model not even seen in the Polar White Dial version, which is also a beautiful watch for differing reasons.

I feel this is probably the most under the Radar Rolex I've ever bought, which I also find refreshing.
Having recently climbed Table Mountain in SA, I remember wishing I had this watch at the time, but heading back again later this year for another climb, I will defo be taking this watch with me so it can participate in an adventure for which it was created.

If that 24-hour hand was almost any other colour than orange (which I appreciate why it wouldn't be), I'd struggle to resist getting one myself. As it is, I really don't get on with orange... which is kind of handy, financially!

Congratulations, in any case! It's special

Yeah...that's a great watch, to be sure.

I personally am not crazy about the phantom hands, but the watch does so many good things, I can live with it.

Congrats!

I love mine, I think it's an under-appreciated reference. The floating hands are executed well....tough as nails...and what's not to love with the nod to the 1655 with the big orange hands.

Congrats on a fine choice OP, wear in good health.
