TT Day-Date Proof! What?!

My brother and I were at a local watch store, and I put a deposit down on a vintage Date and saw this:

It's definitely real, and it comes from a good and trustworthy guy.

Not sure if this is real or what... but who would ever want an oyster bracelet on a DD over a president bracelet?!?

This is a prototype Day Date that never went into production.

Is that yellow gold and stainless? Or yellow gold and white gold?

Why?

I would like to see the model number stamped on it, though.

Indeed, you not only could be, but I hope you are! Not to disprove you but rather to learn about a reference that few know of.

We recently had a discussion about a 18118... a reference few had heard of. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=141847 It was a learning experience even for some long-time enthusiasts.

I found out that Rolex made a few Stainless DD's (6511/4). I can see no reason that they would not have also made a few Stainless/18k TT as well.

I'd really, really like to see the reference # on this watch.

I don't think that there is a reference number because it is a prototype, and was never put into production. I'll ask him to remove the bracelet the next time I see him.

I think it would be stamped regardless. I am hoping with a reference that we are not familiar with.

Thanks!

Just doesn't look right. I'm glad they decided not to go forward with a production on this version.

If they put it into production, we wouldn't have this interesting plot!

Um I would!! I love the oyster bracelet I tried on a jubilee and a president and I really do prefer the oyster just find it more comfortable, if(when) I get a DD it will be in platinum and I'll ask if I can get a oyster made out of platinum and if not then I'll go for a WG model :D

Interesting find, would be nice to know the model or case number in between the lugs.
Please tell the guy it won't hurt to clean out his watch display trays once in a while.
It's full of dust and fibers(hairs?). :)

I am still very skeptical about this watch. I would be shocked if it was factory. My vote is for cobbled together.

I agree with Eddie unless proven otherwise. My first time to see this combination. But you do see something new everyday.

It may be the real deal. Rolex had some wierd doodads under their sleeves.. So this might be one of them.

If it *was* cobbled up together, then the ref number on the case should clear things up. It would bear the datejust's ref number.

I wonder how the guy got hold of a factory prototype, could be an interesting story.
