Love the AK, but the Explorer has grown on me to extreme proportions.

Neither, I would choose the 36mm Oyster Perpetual. Same great bracelet as you find on the Air King, slightly nicer size, and cheaper than the Explorer. Some really nice dial choices on it too

I like both the Explorer I and the Air-King, but the dial choices available on the AK combined with the updated features of the newer models made my choice easy. I think the recent addition of supercase, oysterclasp, and "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" text have really improved this model's image, at least in my eyes. The significant price advantage of a pre-owned AK sealed the deal. I could care less if someone thinks it's entry level, It's an entry level ROLEX.
The newer 36mm Oyster Perpetual is also a very nice option, although it doesn't have the history or identity of either the EXP I or AK. I recently asked a Rolex AD salesman to show me an OP and he corrected me, and called it an AK. When I said, no it's an OP, he said "Well all Rolex watches are Oyster Perpetual, and this one is an Oyster Perpetual Air-King". We went back and forth as he refused to believe that it wasn't an AK. I had to show him the differences between an AK and the OP before he realized his mistake. I pointed out the case size difference, in addition to the lack of Air-King text on the OP dial. I felt sorry for him as he was clearly embarrassed.

I like the dial options the AK offers but the between the two, I'd go for the Exp.

Explorer, not that there is anything wrong with an AK.
