is a Unisex watch that is missing the date.

I like the watch, but when I wear mine, I really do not like that it doesn't have a date.

Why can a Tudor have a date display, but a Rolex to lack it.

A sexy watch - but not the epitome.

It seems to me that the used Daytonas have increased in value less than most other models. They were around $10,000 on the forums a few years ago, and they're around $10,000 today. Subs on the other hand seem to have increased at least $1,000 in the same period of time.

A Rolex model that I really don't know where to place . . .
On my list or not ?

I like it but I really don't have the urgent feeling that I need one today . . .

I would prefer a 1680, 16660 or 1675 before the Daytona . .

But that's my .02

If I wanted a classic iconic chronograph with no date, I would go for the legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch over the Daytona, any day.

...a watch whose design took a wrong turn after having scored a knockout classic with the early Newman version.

Exactly, all the while MSRP keeps climbing further into the stratosphere. That's why I believe the secondary SS Daytona market is a bubble headed for a correction. I'm not trying to piss on anyone's parade, just stating what to me.... appears to be the obviouse.

because when your using a chronograph, you are in the moment, it is not about tomorrow, it is about the next second, no date is just part of the aesthetic.

it is a pure form of expression, enduring and timeless.

Classic but everyone has them now in ss. Not as unique. I have a gold strap Daytona w mop that is a head tuner and more unique because the mop dials are the least produced of all Daytona models.

I saw 3 ss white daytonas this weekend. I use to see three in 2 years? I do have a white ss I bought in 2003

..the one watch that haters love to hate because it's still Rolex's most elusive watch to get a hold of and it drives them nuts. The demand still outpaces supply everywhere in the world. It may be easier to get but you still aren't walking into the typical AD and finding one

...varied enough that I like some versions and dislike others, which is why it is so sought after? Something for everyone in the Daytona line.

...stunning in WG/black leather with a meteorite dial?

...a solid watch that'll last, worthy of handing down to future generations?

I feel I should divulge, in the case of bias, that I am a fan. Clearly, I hide it well :P

Wow I am torn now, I was thinking of adding one of these next, but maybe I should go for the Tudor equivalent. I really do struggle to see where the extra value is in the Daytona, Then again I am a Tudor fan so what can I say.

Unlike many here I do like Chronographs, I know we rarely use them as intended but I still think they are cool. Maybe I will keep my cash in my pocket. I am not that fussed about the date but seems others are. Equally I dont like people saying they are shiny because I tend to like my watches understated.

I can't get over comments about it being a women's watch. By all means I accept that a certain number of people like the 42mm+ watch trend. But the Daytona is not women's size even if a couple of celebs are wearing them, because they are flashy on a wrist.

But I must say this thread has swung me back towards a Tudor version rather than a Daytona. I do feel more conscious wearing a Rolex than I do my Piaget/GP etc... and I suspect the Daytona is a really visible Rolex statement. Don't get me wrong I love Rolex's but I love them for me not for others to make comment about them. I like flying under the radar with my Tudor.

Awe, don't let other peoples opinion change yours, if you truly love Daytonas, a classic chrono, then NOT getting one would be more regretful then getting one and worrying what people would think! I was lucky enough to get a Daytona, and this was before I was aware of all the opinions stated in this thread . . . I'd do it again in a heartbeat, because all the subs didn't "speak" to me; the GMT's, while awesome, looked a bit plain (no colored bezels in any inventory I saw; the YMII just wasn't my cup o' tea; the SECOND I saw the meteorite face on the Daytona though, I fell hard for it. I had the option of that, or the black dial SS daytona (which apparently has quite the following), and even to outside observers, it was clear that I was smitten with the meteorite.

Long story short, go with the watch you love, and you'll never regret it!
