Advice Needed: Ownership of First Rolex Kinda Bumpy
So my first foray into rolex hasn't been the smoothest of rides, so I was hoping you guys could help me with something.
I bought a Rolex as a present but circumstances ended up arising which resulted in a present to me Thanks to the seller btw. Stand up guy. So the SubC is an absolutely beautiful watch. Even the controversial lugs, everything about the design, Im a fan of. After a Tag and four Omegas, I def do prefer the Rolex over the formers. Can't tell if thats cause im still in the honeymoon phase. With that being said, I seem to have the worst luck for my first Rolex. My dial has a severe case of uneven lume drying. I searched and alot of people have uneven lume (splotchy/dirty etc) but for some reason every single of my markers have the splotchy-ness to it, compared to peoples 1-2 markers. The more pressing problem I have is the fact that there are two specs of dust, one on the underside of the crystal, the other on the actual dial, that bother me. Again, both the lume issue and the dust can be seen w/o a loupe. Its a bit irritating to say the least to have these issues on a brand new watch. I know many of you will say "send it to RSC, they'll take care of it" but the idea of being without my watch for 4-5 weeks, no less a BRAND NEW watch that they'll have to open, concerns me. There has been multiple stories where people get their watches back with scratches they never had before. I know this sounds like a broken record and that my only options are RSC or Indie watch maker. I just wanted to vent that this experience with my first ever Sub had been a bit of a downer. I wonder if I should just wait until service time 5-7 years later. But then again, the dust might signify that there is a seal open on the watch and that swimming without might not be a good idea. Not only that but I would have to pay out of pocket to do a potential dial swap. Meh, I guess i have two years to decide what to do. Depressing to say the least. Thank you guys for listening. |

I would get it to RSC. A few weeks without a faulty watch is no big deal. Getting the watch returned in scratched condition from RSC is highly unlikely.

As the others have said.... RSC
Being without your watch is not easy but I'd rather be without than be annoyed. |

Send it to RSC and do not worry.
Please remember that any watch is just another thing that you own, so getting emotionally attached to it may not be the best for your own well-being. Even if the watch is expensive, it probably matches your finances, so sending it for a regular service should not bother you. And in this case the service may be free of charge, so you have nothing to worry about at all. |

This is where buying from an AD might have benefited you. If it was brand new they may have exchanged it. Send it to Rolex and look at it as a minor inconvenience and then think of the money you saved going grey market

Given your understandable disappointment, the only option from my perspective is to get it fixed and fixed right by RSC.
Why you were sold an obviously defective watch is another question altogether.

I would have a RSC inspect it now and identify the issues.
If you leave it until the end of the warranty period there may be questions asked as to why you left it so long and whether it was like this when new. If you leave it until it requires a service I don't think Rolex would accept it as a warranty issue. Once the issue thas been identified then the RSC would be required to correct the problem and you could have this done when convenient. BTW you identified this as a SubC that is the 114060? right. Or is it a SubDateC the 116610? Welcome to the Forum.

This is why a 2nd Rolex is mandatory. Get a new Rolex and send that Sub in.

Send it to the RSC. That dust will drive you nuts the longer it's there.

If I were you, I would just go to that Fast-Fix watch repair place at the mall. I'm sure they've got all the right tools, and if they don't...they could probably still figure out a way to get your case back off w/ some vice grip type tool!
But, either way...they should be able to help you get off those dust specs at the very least and get you back on you way! Or, you could send it off to the RSC and feel lonely...but satisfied that it will get done right! |

If you do decide to send it to one of the RSC's, you could perhaps wait for a few weeks of ownership to watch/record its daily rate before sending it. If the watch deviates +/- more seconds per day than you would prefer, the RSC can make that simple adjustment for you, at your request, when they attend to the dial issues. All should be covered under your warranty.

Why would you not get this handled under warranty? Wait until service and you are looking at buying a new dial. Send it in and complain about the uneven lume and the dust. They'll take care of it.

I'll just echo what others have said. Too bad this happened to you. I would be pissed. This is also why I don't have a loupe.

Love your rolex, love your rsc. I personally went back to my local RSC countless times, just because I couldn't get my bracelet sized comfortably. Pass it to them, they will know what needs to be done to get your watch back to good shape and making you happy.

Get it taken care of now. 4 -6 weeks from now it'll be an afterthought and you'll be happy you did.

Dust on the dial is irritating and ofc disappointing so get it fixed now, and take off the bracelet if you are worried about scratches. Rolex QC is generally very good so you are unlucky but no watch is perfect, and remember PPs and APs, which cost far more, come with far more QC problems than Rolex generally.

Little talked about - but very true.

Another RSC vote, it'll take a little time but you'll be happier in the long run
