Birth year Rolex

I'd love a Rolex from my birth year (1967) and for me, it would have to be a Submariner. I've seen all sorts of models from the 60s (Subs, GMTs, DJs, etc.) advertised on places like Watchfinder with a typical caveat that because of the age of the watch, waterproof integrity and accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Is that a genuine concern or should a well maintained piece still be reasonably accurate? I tend not to wear a watch in the water, so I can't get too excited about waterproof integrity.

What is the best way to source a vintage piece? I'm guessing TRF trusted sellers but living in Singapore for 10 months of the year and the UK for two, import duties would be a ball-ache I could quite happily live without.

Well there is no reason why a 1967 rolex can't me services and be pretty much as accurate as a new model. Certainly within chronometer specs. Should be able to be water proof but best not go diving with a 60s rolex just to be safe.

For imports, you could have a friend in Malaysia take delivery as there is zero import duty on watches at present.

There are some dealers in UK and Singapore but prices tend to be higher than in US so you'll not save anything necessarily by buying local.

This piece is your birth year. Although I personally would not take it swimming it would probably be fine. As for accuracy, it is spot on.

+1

5512 circa 1967.
Almost keeps ± 0 sec. a day in wearing.
Cal. 1570 is very reliable movement IMHO.

I am confused a 5512 from 1967 feet first? I thought during that production year it was meters first.

Can someone please educate me

A service dial? Similar to what's listed here:

Thanks for the confirmation, thought that was the reason. I also assume that production year would have had a gilt dial.

Yes.
A service dial with luminova unfortunately.
Not a vintage like face, but a trusty wearer.
I love it.
