I am considering my first Rolex and this one keeps coming back to the top of my list.Here is a dilemma for me, upon researching I came across these deviations on the same model/year,and it really is bothering me.Your comments would be appreciated.

They are both legit!

The bottom engraving is typical of the early 14060 whereas the top one is typical of the later D ,Z, M,V... serials

Rolex doesn't make watches by Model Year..

An F, D, or Z could be from 2006 and possibly others which could have been stamped much earlier..

Here is one of mine from late in the same era, so I would say that the bottom one is earlier..

.Can anyone share any images of similar engraving on a genuine Z model as seem on the bottom example? It just seems very sloppy to me compared to any other examples I have seen yet.

Sorry if this is nitpicky, but it's not really a "Z model." Z is the first digit of the serial, nothing more. Random minor font changes have certainly occurred in Rolex's past and they didn't wait for a new letter to start them. Rolex is notorious for using all their stock; they wouldn't throw away a batch of old parts just for having the "old font" which is why you see some seemingly random overlap over the years.

Indeed... "Z" serials were "first seen" in the market place in mid 2006 and extended easily into 2009. (almost all letter prefixes were produced for 3 to 4 years and overlapped others) The idea that all Z serials were produced in a single year is mathematically unlikely..

Expectations for this "Serial".So I am still unsure of where the almost freehand style fits into this as it appears from comments?
