Problem with new Rolex.
2 weeks ago I purchased my first rolex. Submariner. before this i wore a cheap (compared to this) seiko watch.
i have an issue with the rolex when i purchased it i set the time to the second by the gov site and today the watch is 12 seconds ahead of the official clock. my seiko watch never needed adjusting except when the battery died.t could go for 2 years and not lose 12 seconds the rolex has lost in 2 weeks . can anyone explain what i did wrong?or is this a defect i should report to the AD. |

COSC specifications say a watch can gain 6 seconds per day and lose up to 4 seconds per day. Rolex has updated its own specifcations to +2/-2.
that means that a Rolex watch can gain or lose 2 seconds per day. Rolex watches are mechanical and there is some degree of error that is allowed. Quartz watches have and always will be more accurate than an automatic time piece. Your watch is well within specs basically gaining under 1 second per day. Enjoy the watch and stop fretting over the small stuff =). |

Mechanical movements will not keep time as accurately as a quartz movements.

12 seconds off per 24h? I'm no expert on Rolex watches, but new rolex's should not be more than +/- 2 seconds per day. Older ones -4/+6 per 24hrs. My EXP II is +1 second per day.

So you are concerned about -12 seconds over 14 days?
Congrats on the watch, still not sure why you would be unhappy.

Man what a hard crowd. The OP clearly stated this is his first high end automatic watch. I think he just didn't know. Now he does. Geesh
Congratulations on your new submariner. Enjoy it in good health.

The guys are having a joke as you are new, but yes the watch should be within 2 seconds a day according to Rolex so yours is fine after 14 days. Quartz is much more accurate.

The OP is new and asking a valid question that is concerning him. Since when has this forum become so snarky and intolerable? I know many of us that have been here a long time know the comments are trying to be clever and fun but to a newbie it might be interpreted as snarky and intolerable.
OP: You watch is in-spec and very accurate for a automatic.

The picture Below is what is in your ROLEX Sub. It is a work horse and as accuarate as any Mechanical movement, maybe better.
Your movement ticks at 8 x per second, so in 1 hour it ticks 28,800. So in 2 weeks your ROLEX ticks at 9,676,800 times! 12 seconds off is miraculous... I approve of this message... Oh, and Quartz is accurate, but no soul

Agreed, if it is his first mechanical watch after owning quartz watches that cost a 40th of the price and are highly accurate it can be a surprise. Be kind.

Huge congrats on your 1st Rolex. I had the same concerns when I bought my first mechanical watch. You'll will get to the point where losing or gaining a few seconds every week pales into insignificance as you enjoy your new watch.
Really, don't worry about it - I wish my Sub was that accurate!!! |

Tough crowd, its like some of the members are getting their kicks and grins from trying to find a troll and seem to find it unbelievable that someone would dare think that a Rolex should keep perfect time. Then when the first time poster gets offended and does not post a defense for themselves the hate crowd sits backs and pats themselves on the back like they have done a service for the forum.
Just as there is a good chance it could be a troll, It is just as likely the OP hit a life achievement, went out and purchased a Rolex with no knowledge that a Rolex is mechanical or the working mechanics of an automatic watch. Set the time checked it two weeks later, freaked out searched rolex 14 seconds slow, a rolexfurom link popped up, created an account, posted a question before doing proper research on the subject. |

Don't feed the troll. First post slagging off a Sub for gaining less than one sec a day and comparing it to a Quartz...
By the way going by the name rolexnuts... |

I am leaning toward troll because it is hard to believe that they would go through the trouble of creating an account versus reading through one of the countless threads on accuracy that were bound to have come up in a google search if the post is legit, but ultimately i just feel there is no need to offend anyone on their first post if they are legitimate. i think a single reply of "newer Rolex watches are all automatic mechanical watches and loss or gain of time is normal, your watch is running well within acceptable time loss criteria, use the search tool on the forum to look at other posts on this subject" and then if you view the thread and the question has been answered, either reply with a x2, congrats, or move on. I don't know maybe its just me.

Brett imho it is nice of you to respond with a kind manner and people like you are an asset to fora like this one. So is the gentleman to whom you responded to (jbreeden). i mean this.
However, i also bet responses would be slightly different (at least mine) had he first introduced himself before he explained his problem. it is the whole "feel" of the post that has caused the reaction i think. |

quartz vs automatic. Automatic can be dialed in to be very accurate, however there is some grace to it. at one second per day, I wouldn't worry about it. Welcome
