I was going to say that a sub/subdate/SD would be preferable at the beach because of the brushed bracelet on the sand but my SD links have polished sides - go figure.

On my last few trips I took my TT GMTc, SD, SS Daytona and my Apple Watch.

At the end of the day choose the watches you want to wear.

I'd take which ever one I like wearing the most. If I wanted to remain under the radar I'd wear an Exp II. No worries about any of the mix as far as durability is concerned.

Silly WIS, watches are for wrists.

No, but there are almost identical watches, both of which will survive sport diving.

Take your favourite, or both.

I have taken both, the one advantage of the sub is the bracelet is the lack of PCL`s if it is a real beach vacation and it flies it little more under the radar. The advantage with the GMT is the GMT function, when I am away I still like to know the time at home and sometimes other places depending on what I am involved with at the time. If I am spending a lot of time at the ocean with the BLNR I am a little more aware of sand but its never been a problem either way. I think I mentioned before I used to always take my 16623. As it was a TT I was a little more careful with it, i.e. I wasn`t building sand castles with it on. I must admit I was also a little more aware of it looking like a fishing lure as it glittered away under the oceans surface. Man looses left arm and Rolex to shark type of thoughts did go through my head from time to time :-)

Out of those 2 I'd pick the Sub but another option is pick up a fun beach watch and not have to worry!

I'm heading to Maui this Sunday, leaving my BLNR in the safe and bringing this

^ I completely agree. If you're going abroad the BLNR is the way to go unless you'll be including some diving during the vacation. The BLNR can handle reasonable depths (triplock after all) but the Sub is of course best suited to that sort of activity. I would just be careful with sand and the PCLs with the GMT. Keep it away from sand and rinse it off immediately if you happen to get some on it.

Well, I live in Mexico at the beach and I went today. I don't have the BLNR, but I do have a 16710 Pepsi and I have an SD4K, but I was in the mood for vintage 5513 Sub, so that one went with me.

Most any Rolex is good for the beach. For Christ's sake, these are some of the finest dive watches that have ever been built, why lock it in the safe when you go to the beach....I just don't understand!

I just got back from puerta Vallarta and took my GMT. I don't have a Sub but opted for the GMT over my Seamaster. Perhaps Rolex should make a Sub w/ a GMT function for those of us in such a quandary?

Nah, probably not.

If you were going to the beach on a family vacation would you wear a Sub or BLNR?

Sub. That's what's it for is it not? Wouldn't want the sand scratching the PCLs on the blnr
