Go down to south coast plaza or to traditions in fountain island and try some watches on, see what you love. After that look at the sale section here and see what's available. IMHO the ad experience isn't worth the money that you can save here!

That's an option, if not and you still want to go the AD route, I would definitely spend the extra money and get the watch you REALLY want. This is a milestone and you don't want to "settle" for something.

If you do go the trusted seller route, they can get you a brand new one from an AD with your name on the card with a legit 5 year warranty.

Welcome. Don't buy anything. Yet. I'd spend some time on here and go try on watches. Unless you've decided on a sub, you'll be surprised how quickly your tastes will change and likely expand. Try on watches and whatever you do, don't pay full retail plus LA County sales tax. Should that happen, we as a forum will have failed you and you will have hurt our feelings. :)

I recommend the 114060! the glide lock bracelet is a bonus.

Echoing the comments on getting a Sub. I had mine for ten years and was never once bored of it. Finally decided to flip it when I fell head over heels for a Daytona, but I agree with he majority here that a Sub is the best place to start at your price point.

Welcome! You seriously can't go wrong with the 114060 Sub or the Explorer 1. IMO they are both almost perfect (technically I prefer the older 14060 Sub, but if you want to go new, the Sub C is great).

Welcome! I'm also in the LA area. As others mentioned, take your time and try on a bunch of watches (regardless of price), to narrow down the one you like best. Then compare between AD and online reputable dealers...if out of your budget, keep saving for the one you want.

Don't settle based on your current budget...you will end up flipping and eventually getting the one you really want...but will end up costing you more in the long run.

This forum has been a huge inspiration as I navigate! And just even across the last week it's been wildly adventurous; trying on what I like and finding what I do/don't like. Also going through the debate of vintage vs new. I've actually learned a ton on the way.

After the last week of due diligence, I'll let you guys know where I stand. I've shifted a tad due to in person experiences with a few watches I didn't think I would be attracted to!

GMT 16710 Pepsi or BLNR. I've never been taken aback so much by the magnificence of the color combinations. I'm Midwestern at heart, so naturally I didn't want something that screamed, "LOOK, I'm wearing a Rolex!!" But these two left me somewhat breathless.

Anyhow, this is an incline in price which I've comes to grips with. I figured if a watch can nearly take me down to one knee, it's worth the few extra bucks :)

I'll keep you in the loop and post a photo when it's all said and done.
