Submariner or GMT if you had to choose one

Submariner or GMT if you had to choose one and why?

Submariner was my first Rolex and I chose the sub over the GMT because it had a less busy Bezel which I preferred.

I have both but if I ever had to choose only one, it would have be to the Submariner because of the BCLs and the Glidelock.

If I'm picking one it would be the sub.The sub is just pure Rolex to me.Seems more sporty and rugged which is me and I don't travel much.

GMT, because I'm an aviator and not a submariner!

I much prefer the GMT complication. It's much more useful to me. However I love the Glidelock clasp.

Submariner. As a tool watch it suffice my needs. I can measure the lapsed time using the bezel at my work.

I don't travel a lot, so I don't need a GMT complication.

The GMT every time for me, as it has a complication that I find useful on a regular basis. The Sub, since I stopped diving, does not.

If I had neither, I'd go with the Sub; it's a classic and as you mentioned the dial is less busy. I couldn't live without a GMT function watch whilst travelling though so maybe get both or choose a GMT from another brand in the future.

GMT is very useful when travelling, photograph perspectives make it look busier, in real life I find them similar, platinum numbers look great.

Sub is a classic, full brush with glidelock feels more utilarian than bling of GMT.

So no wrong choice, so close between them and over time many would get both

Also might come down to colours, green vs black and blue, or just plain black, or perhaps future black red GMT, those details might make your mind up

GMT for me, too. I like it more, particularly the pre-ceramic with red GMT hand; and it is much more functional. The rotating bezel allows for two time zones, or military time, or count down chronometer. And it's lighter and thinner than the sub.

GMT is always the answer.

I'm writing this so often I might change my signature.

If I had to choose between letting either my GMT or Sub go-an extremely difficult choice-I'd hang on to the 14060M.

Definitely the sub (if you mean sub date). It is hands down the best one-piece-collection anyone could own because anyone can wear it, anywhere, with anything...not mention it's beautiful and a total icon of horology.

I would not be able to decide, though I do favor the GMT. Fortunately, I do not have, too.

GMT for me. I think it's a nice balance of versatility, features, and aesthetics. Mostly the GMT IIc as I think the larger case keeps its sporty but the PCLs and overall look of the ceramic give it a dressy edge.

Sub. I think the timing bezel is one of, if not the most, useful functions on a sports watch.

I did have to choose one, and I chose the GMT. While a lot of people above have stated the GMT "because I travel" or chosen the sub "because I don't travel", my reason was not travel but because I work across time zones. Being able to keep track of head office time at a glance was a great feature and because of that complication I chose the GMT.

That said, A few years later I picked up a sub to go with it

For me, the GMT is the winner. I love my Submariner's, but the GMT is more functional, IMO.

I made that choice recently and the GMT BLNR won hands down. The only downside is that the GMT seriously diminishes the desire for a Sub.

Preceramic GMTs vs sub is close call but sub takes it

I'd pick the GMT, I think the water resistance is far more than I need on a GMT for normal life (not diving deeper than 100m anytime soon) and I find the complication useful for international travels/keeping track of different time zones for international business.

I have both a 114060 and BLNR. Lately it's been equal wrist time.

I have both a subC and BLNR. But a sub is always a must keep in a collection.

I'd go with a GMT, but only if it was a 5-digit reference. Swappable bezel and non-PCL make it more versatile.
