Discount at Goldsmiths?

Hi all

Today I put down a deposit on a 114060 Submariner at Goldsmiths (UK).

Wanted to know other people's experience of getting a discount at Goldsmiths?
This is my first watch purchase so not sure what etiquette is when it comes to negotiation! If I'm happy with how the watch looks on my wrist I will buy it immediately.

Thanks

I'd be surprised if you get anything off in the UK market at the moment

Once you put down a deposit, any chance of negotiating a discount is gone.

It may depend on the make and model. I purchased a high end Breitling watch, last year from Goldsmiths. They were fair but it took a little bit of bartering. I tried it on, they wanted to know if I was ready to buy, I said I will go for a coffee and think about it, but they need to 'think discount'. I came back one hour later and asked what have they come to on the price. First offer, I refused. Then I gave them a figure I wanted to pay. The Manager called his Manager and we finally had a deal, close to my price if I paid on the day.
Apparently they can sometimes do a deal. If across the company region they have maintained a profit margin overall.
Always worth a try to Ask and Ask again......

No discount but ask for some freebies to sweeten the deal.

The only movement on the price I ever received was on the price tag...

...only discounts I got was when Ernest Jones sold Rolex. With the shareholder 10% discount card I saved three times. When buying the seadweller, sub and on explorer II 42mm.

Take interest free credit, that will be your discount.

My first watch purchase was a 114060 from Goldsmiths too.

I'm afraid you will get zero discount!

I got a bottle of Veuve Clicquot & a free meal but no discount. My advice would be to purchase it using a cashback credit card. That way, you'll earn 2-3%.

Don't forget to post plenty of pics.

Look at it this way, you get a fabulous watch which will hold it's value in a remarkable way. So you do pretty well out of the deal. What else can you buy with virtually zero depreciation? But more important, thevSub will give you a lot of pleasure.

I bought my SubC with date, last year at a provincial Goldsmith's but no discount, but a bottle of Moët Chandon. I was very lucky to locate the watch!
As at the time I was on three waiting lists with one requiring a deposit of £2000, which was refunded.
You'll be lucky to get a discount on a sports Rolex, but I did get 5% on a Exp39mm from Ernest Jones a few years ago, when they were relinquishing the Rolex dealership.

I've only got discount offered on the unpopular models (YM, YMII etc)

I did sort of get discount on a Sub ND, purchased 3 watches (Sub, 2x YM) in one go and the AD took X amount off the total bill which was greater then the original offer on the YM's

I cannot imagine they would give a discount on something they could sell to someone else with no discount so easily.

I you don't ask them though you definitely wont get one!!

Discount at Goldsmiths?

I asked for a discount on my LN GMT, didn't budge on price but they gave me a voucher/ card with £100 off the first service. Forgot to use it ..

If you've paid a deposit then you've tacitly agreed to buy at the retail price. So in this case you'll get no chance of a discount.

My experience having bought a steel Rolex DateJust and a Tudor Pelagos at Goldsmiths is total refusal of a discount in both cases. This was in 2014 and 2015.

In fact, I've never had any discount on any new watch. They just refuse and that's that! Don't know how people manage to get them really.

What credit cards offer "2-3% cash back"?

The best I can get is 1% on Amex and that carries a small annual fee. I use that for all my spending (where they accept Amex). It did offer 5% for the first few months but that was just a small promotional period.

If you can tell me a 2-3% one I'll be all over it

No disrespect meant but there's no comparison between the two watches. Breitling discounts can be had just about anywhere and at quite a high level. The resale value tends to be quite poor on them. A SS Rolex will hold its value far more and appreciate a lot quicker.

I once got a nice discount from Goldsmiths - Got triple value on my Tesco clubcard points for Goldsmiths gift vouchers!!.... £600 off!!..... They didn't like it much off a SS Green glass Milgauss but they honoured it. Doesn't stipulate any models you cant use it on!!

Triple points doesn't happen that often now but Tesco still allow you to exchange your points for Goldsmiths vouchers.

Having publicised this now on here I expect this loophole will be closed very soon as Tesco start shipping out loads of Goldsmiths vouchers to TRF members!

Pretty sure they have stopped it already, think they have capped the amount.

One gift card only and then third party vouchers are excluded from most of the top watch brands

Thats why my first sentence was along the lines of "It may depend on the Make and Model of the watch"... Not sure what your point is ???
