If you pay over $10K in cash it will be reported therefore as mentioned above why not deposit the cash in your bank and write a check ? At 23 you should be proud of yourself to be able to buy a new Rolex in cash kudos to you. However one my ask themselve why does someone have that much cash money in ones pocket and not in the bank ? I'm sure you earned your money legitimately so who cares if they report it as for asking questions they may ask if you would like a glass of champagne.
Congratulations on your first Rolex make sure you post a few pictures of your Awesome new timepiece.

Been there, done that.

Cash is subprime. Unless you can get as much of a discount paying in cash as you can get cash rewards from using your 2%-3% rewards card (or the equivalent in membership rewards points), then you are just throwing away money to make some meaningless statement about your [ostensible] personal liquidity.

In my experience, especially on the hot pieces, cash nor not, there is no extra discount. You're either getting the max discount (15-20%) no matter your form of payment (like the 20% that I was able to get on a 114060 and 15% on a 116613lb - both with credit cards) or you're not getting anything (DaytonaC, Blnr).

Congrats on the new Rolex. I'd agree better protection with credit card.

They will not question you at all. I promise you there have been customers that have bought extremal expensive watches with cash and no one bats an eye. But i would make sure i get a good discount when paying with cash. In the negotiations mention you will pay with physical cash

Make sure you freeze it the night before. Rolex AD only take the cash if extra cold.

10K is the cut off before questions. I wanted to pay outright for a car. The total came to around 33K. I asked for wire instructions and they freaked out... but they let me write a personal check. I had done business with them many times. Might have been the last check I wrote.

Do yourself a favour and a) decide on what you want (make trips to an AD just to try on pieces - don't talk money) and b) ask for a discount since you are paying cash. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but if you're okay paying full retail then it doesn't hurt to ask anyway.

I'd recommend the sub date over just the sub...less chance of buyer's regret!

I believe I spoke with an attorney in my office and was asking her about large cash purchases and exactly what the CTR form entails. The form is called the currency transaction report and you will have to provide your SSN I believe. What the merchant will do is upload to a government database (forgive me I forgot which) and it does a query to see if you've engaged in similar large transactions. Given this is your first I highly doubt it will progress further. If it were to be flagged your info would be sent to Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCEN) for a more detailed exam. Reason I asked her was I was contemplating a similar purchase and she had experience with the anti money laundering regulations. Good luck.

Nobody just accepts a check these days, certified or not! Money order's are a waste of time and so are bank drafts. The OP wants to go into the AD and haggle for a discount on the Rolex. How's he supposed to know what the final price comes to, in order to put the amount on the certified check. Even then, you'll have to get the bank managers phone number and some other bank administrators phone number so that the AD can call them to make sure the funds are cleared, ect ect.

I know. I did this when I bought my very first Rolex. Wanted to pay cash. AD said bank draft is fine, just bring a bank managers business card with you so that we can call him/her to make sure the funds are legit. Then you have to prey that when you do go to pick up your watch, the bank manager isn't on a lunch break or in a meeting and then they won't let you leave with it When I went, this took 30 minutes to iron out because they had to make the call, get the manager, make everything official. Everyone's just standing around looking at each other. IT WAS %^% embarrassing. It just made me VERY angry that there was a remote possibility that that afternoon I was going to walk out of the AD with no Rolex because the bank manager wasn't around to confirm.

I haven't paid with a financial instrument since.

A year ago when I went to buy my YM2 SS, I walked into the bank the day before to order the funds for the next day. It was an additional $12K to the $8K I already had on me for the sale of another Rolex I had. When I went to pick up the $12K the bank had me sign a waiver that I understood that I risked being robbed walking out of their location with $12K and that I declined all of their offers of "free" secure financial instruments like a check or draft. I laughed at them and told them to pound sand.

To the OP, brother, go in there with a stack of cash and make sure they see it. Slap it on the counter if you have to and tell em you want discounts. NEVER pay full retail and to heck with banks and their bogus financial instruments. As good as toilet paper in my opinion.

I've paid cash for six Rolex and Tudor watches, even when I used the lay-away plan.

Do the cash!

I have always got a better deal or received a discount when I showed them an envelope full of cash.

Credit card, nope. Wire transfer, nope. Checks, nope. But always been able to get something with cold hard cash!

OP has been a member for 5 years this winter. I'd say the "finally" is warranted. It's probably a lot harder for an 18 year than an older person, to make the decision to save for a purchase like this.

Good for you Dennis! Congrats again. Looking forward to the incoming.

Since the purchase is under 10k, you don't have to worry about forms and all that. Given that you're going to an AD, be assured that you're 7500 all in for the sub or less. People occasionally negotiate discounts and get whacked with NYS sales tax.

You may have overthought it a little, but the decision to get a submariner is some good thinking. I hope you get it asap.
