I don't pay cash for anything if I can avoid it. I'll take the reward points or cashback on my credit card any day. Just pay the balance in full each month and no interest charges either.

cash is king. they wont care mate. No matter how much you pay I can bet someone else has paid more for a watch in cash.

I was at hour glass a while back and there were 3 ppl paying cash. I was going to be the 4th person paying cash.

Exactly.

And many businesses would rather not having to deal with large sums of cash.

Since it's already been answered a ton, I'll ask the real questions... where's the pizza shop? Has barstool sports done a review of it yet? I'm hungry and want pizza now

I work for 100% cash at my pizzeria and that's all I have, is cash. Will AD's take cash without asking 5 billion questions on where it's from? I don't have any type of pay stub or whatever from my pizzeria. I do have my W2s from JP Morgan, would that suffice?

Or am I overthinking it and I can walk right in with straight cash?
tell your parents to stop paying you in cash and report it as wages for the tax deduction on the books and return. their tax rate is probably higher than yours and they can gift you the $28k per year using the annual gift splitting exclusion to pay your taxes. not to mention you pretty just admitted you are committing tax fraud against the US government.

Get the price and get a cashier check made out to them. No need to risk something happening with loads of money on you just to buy something.

In response to the worries about carrying a lot of cash on your person, I would say that carrying < $10k is not really any more dangerous or inconvenient than wearing a watch of equal value.

Assuming you're carrying hundreds, that amount of cash can fit in your pocket just as easily as a bifold wallet. It's not like we're talking about needing a duffel bag full of cash or it's spilling out of your pockets.

Not like I would wanna walk around all day with $10k on me, but going from the bank to my car to the AD parking lot and then walking inside shouldn't be a big deal, unless you're in a really seedy area.

I'll add my .02 worth. AMEX, pay full balance each month. Points, cash back, buyer's protection, sometimes extended warranty (not on a watch though) and much safer to carry around. No one has ever taken me less seriously because I'm not carrying a big wad of cash. Lose the cash? All gone. Lose the credit card? Toll-free call.

actually bluside checked this. a rolex bought at an AD qualifies for 1 extra year of warranty.

Cold, hard, cash = change, right? Metal is both harder and a better conductor of temperature than paper. I'm not sure a NYC AD is going to roll out the red carpet for change!

Even then, you'll have to get the bank managers phone number and some other bank administrators phone number so that the AD can call them to make sure the funds are cleared, ect ect.

I know. I did this when I bought my very first Rolex. Wanted to pay cash. AD said bank draft is fine, just bring a bank managers business card with you so that we can call him/her to make sure the funds are legit. Then you have to prey that when you do go to pick up your watch, the bank manager isn't on a lunch break or in a meeting and then they won't let you leave with it When I went, this took 30 minutes to iron out because they had to make the call, get the manager, make everything official. Everyone's just standing around looking at each other. IT WAS %^% embarrassing. It just made me VERY angry that there was a remote possibility that that afternoon I was going to walk out of the AD with no Rolex because the bank manager wasn't around to confirm.

I haven't paid with a financial instrument since.

A year ago when I went to buy my YM2 SS, I walked into the bank the day before to order the funds for the next day. It was an additional $12K to the $8K I already had on me for the sale of another Rolex I had. When I went to pick up the $12K the bank had me sign a waiver that I understood that I risked being robbed walking out of their location with $12K and that I declined all of their offers of "free" secure financial instruments like a check or draft. I laughed at them and told them to pound sand.

To the OP, brother, go in there with a stack of cash and make sure they see it. Slap it on the counter if you have to and tell em you want discounts. NEVER pay full retail and to heck with banks and their bogus financial instruments. As good as toilet paper in my opinion.
I just wrote a personal check for $39,649.12 to the BMW dealer.

To the OP, pay with a rewards CC. I pay for all my watches with a 2.5% unlimited cash back card. That's a nice discount. And I go in asking for a cash price and then ask if I can pay with a CC. Haven't had an AD yet ask for more to use the CC.
