Incoming and impression as newb...

I’m still fairly new to the forum here and just a few months into owning my first Rolex, in a series of wild, irrational moves, I’ve already parlayed this into multiple purchases, starting with my first sub (116610LN), a DJII (flipped) and most recently the BLNR.

As a newb, I’ve really appreciated the camaraderie and open discussion on here. TRF has been an awesome resource for research, (and for feeding the addiction), and TRF members have been extremely helpful, particularly guiding me through my first transaction on the forum. Thanks, guys!

So part of being a new member of this community I think is figuring out what kind of Rolex owner someone wants to be… a watch nerd, a collector, a serial flipper… a collector of vintage or modern… and that, unfortunately, this is highly dependent on one’s means/ability to sustain their approach to this hobby. After some soul searching then (and some consternation over the state of my wallet), I’ve come to the conclusion that I am a one-watch guy. And so today I’m happily married to my new BLNR...

* PCLs seem generally unpopular here on the forum, but I’ve found I prefer them on the BLNR over the brushed bracelet on my sub. They are more interesting to me visually.
* Optimal fit for me with the slightly thinner case and shorter clasp (vs. the glidelock clasp on the sub).
* Versatility (both dressy and sporty) and not too flashy (though two-tone really growing on me from forum pics).
* Functionality with GMT and date. (Also unpopular opinion on here it seems, but I love having the date and specifically the cyclops.)
* Few things make me happier than looking at this dial and bezel!

Thanks again guys for welcoming me here! Look forward to seeing your watches on here!

Congrats

I love PCLs and the Cyclops. Take no notice of the repetitively vocal dislikes of a minority and go with what you enjoy.

Remember, most of us started as "one watch guys" and then we got carried away LOL

I bought my DJII as a one watch guy, then naturally decided I needed a sports watch to complement my dress watch.

Love the GMT. I went with an older model because I wanted the coke/pepsi colors. Most people here like the look of the PCL's (me included) but find that they become scratch magnets.

That watch is a true beauty and a great selection for a one watch customer

Congrats. I thought I was a 1 watch Rolex with my 114060 and within 2 months I bought a BLNR. I swear I was hesitant about the PCL's and honestly I love it. Doesn't bother me and really makes the band stand out. Right now my BLNR is getting 60% percent of wrist time and the 114060 40%

Great choice but haven't you learned that there's no such thing as a TRF one-watch owner?

Yeah...if I decided to be a one watch guy it'd either be blnr or 16710 also...the gmt just speaks to me. Congrats on a fine choice.

Nice story and congrats, the BLNR is a great choice!

I also have learned a lot in my almost 2 years of being into high end watches. I was first drawn to an Omega Aqua Terra and thought that would be my 1 watch. That didn't last long and I soon added other brands like Squale and Hamilton and eventually a Planet Ocean. I learned how quickly my taste can change and have since bought and flipped a good 4 Omega's and that Squale. I like the idea of being a 1 watch person but I've found I'm more of a flipper. My current collection has 2 pieces that I will never sell as they are both gifts, one from my Pastor and the other from my Wife. I like to think I will keep the 16710 for the rest of my life but given my history I can't say that. If anything I want to add a Diver sometime in the future but who knows....its an ever changing road when it comes to being into watches.

PS - Glad you learned the most important lesson which is to not care so much about what other people think when it comes to your watch and go for what you think looks the best and sings to you.

If you are going to stay a one watch guy, BLNR is a great choice.

After the first year and a half or so on brushed, I put my BLNR back on the PCL bracelet little while ago and it's stayed on ever since. Not one for PCLs usually, but has really grown on me...

Congrats on the BLNR! So will you stay married, have an affair with the TT GMT, divorce/annul the BLNR for the TT, or maybe go for polygamy?

Congratulations! To your point about the cyclops, I just think it looks better on certain Rolex models than others - and it fits the GMT design perfectly.
