I am so sorry to hear about you losing your pal. We lost out Shih-Tzu this past December and I'm far from being over her. These are not just pets - they are full fledged family members. He was lucky to have had what time he did with you. Know that you made a huge difference in Butcher's life and that he loved you unconditionally every single day. I don't think the pain of losing such a beloved member of the family ever gets easier. We just learn to live with it.
