Rolex is a thing of want, not a thing of need. If you want it, you don't need logical reasons to justify getting it.
When my wife WANTS a chanel bag, she does not need any justification to get it at 10 times the price of a Michael Kors bag. She will just get it. |

You're doing the right thing. If possible keep both, but of those two I'd pick the Sub - it's a classic. You won't regret it. Buy another BB later if you wish.
I was in the same situation with my Pelagos but I decided to keep it for the following reasons: - I think Tudor got everything right with it: looks good, wears well - I'm not worried about it getting banged up a little, hence it's my weekend "active" watch - Since it's an ETA it was inexpensive and easy to get it regulated, it now achieves sub-COSC accuracy! |

Aside from that, I believe it is an expensive fallacy to consider one watch over another as an upgrade. That rabbit hole can be very costly to follow. As I look at my collection I'm trying to figure out how to pare it back to only a couple of nice watches. |

Edit: I would prefer the Rolex but do not see why it has to be linked to a wedding. The Tudor will look just as good. |

It's all about your personal taste. I prefer my BB to my Rolex. I find the Submariner's bracelet a bit small as it tapers down to the clasp

the rolex is market price is higher than the tudor. i trust we can all agree on that.
the OP's thread title may imply the rolex is superior to the tudor. the implication is debatable. nothing in the OP's post suggests that was the point of his thread. in any event it appears his choice of words was quite simple. the rolex costs more so he is indeed trading up to a more valuable watch. whether or not it is better is beside the point. perhaps the OP can enlighten us all.

Maybe upgrade was the incorrect term to use. Its certainly a upgrade in price.
I have considered keeping both but i cant justify the cost. |

Next to the movement, materials, and above all the design. Flawless and timeless and oh so iconic. In every detail a better one than the Tudor. |

but if this is your first watch with the crown, like in op case, then it does matter even though you are just wearing the name for the sake of the name. you get to say i own a rolex instead of a tudor. but i agree. dont call it an upgrade. just a brand preference. |

I can't see the ceramic sub becoming a classic. They now appear too clinical, the ceramic bezel will remain the Same forever, a watch should age over time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Even taking into consideration resale? One of the side benefits I found of the Rolex brand was basically getting a free watch when it comes time to sell it on.

I'd keep the Tudor or maybe look at a two line sub.

There is sexiness in Rolex that Tudor lacks. I didn't even know about Tudor until after I joined this forum.
Yes the old timers of knowledge in watch world can argue the mechanics and merits of Tudor and its advantages over owning a Rolex, but that perhaps comes with maturity (in a WIS sense). But for now, for the OP, and Rolex fans out there (like myself) who have been a long time Rolex fan but only new to the world of other watches, there is no denying that Rolex has the appeal that Tudor lacks. Now mind you, I just told my thirty some year old new grad nephew not more than two nights ago that he should start with a Tudor BBB as his first watch (he was sending me pictures of white gold day date as his favorite watch), so I am starting to like Tudor myself and see the value in it too. But if anyone asks me whether they should move 'up' from a Tudor to a Rolex, I would definitely say yes. And the name and the look / color / finish does play a role and is worth the added cost to some people.... Hell, I paid and others too passionately continue to pay about $1500 premium to get half a bezel of blue + a blue gmt hand in their 116710BLNR vs. 116710LN.

Upgrade. However, if it's your only Rolex, make sure to check out the sub date too. See which one looks better to you. It will not be a huge increase in price.

Trusted sellers are selling the LN for about $7500 vs. $8900 for BLNR.
This is kind of not related to the thread, but shows that people are willing to pay more for some color, given all else being equal, which I am sure is not a surprise to everyone here. Now add the name 'Rolex' to the mix and quality and well known status, and voila.

Depends on the watch. Most Rolex and Tudor will plummet in resale when you walk out the AD. Look at the Classifieds here, people selling Tudors for not much less than they paid. Vintage Tudor Subs are right up there with Rolex in collectability, too. There's loads of variables.

I don't find the Tudor to be special enough to be a wedding watch. Presumably toeing it to this memory means you will keep it forever, and well, you already have eyes for something else. The Rolex is the watch for the occasion, and you will be glad you upgraded from hear on out.
The Tudor is a very respectable rugged and utilitarian watch, like the very gulf of watches. Most people ride in a limousine on their wedding day, if you'll indulge my automotive analogy. Congratulations on your impending marriage! |

Ive found a non date sub in stock but I haven't sold my Tudor. Has anyone uk based got any recommendations for buyers? Watchfinder offered £1800 which would be my lowest figure I'd go too but I've got to post the watch to them. Ideally wanting £2k. It's on eBay currently but not much real interest.

Sub > bbn but it's close. Cru's post made sense to me. Clasp and bracelet to the Rolex and I think that's not debateable

Do watchfinder stand on the price they quote? I've described watch as good but not perfect as it's been worn etc. No damage or scratches apart from desk diving marks.
My nearest branch is Leeds but they say they have to post it to London and it takes 5 days to process. |

Buy the Rolex. Get rid of the Tudor.
Do you want a Toyota or a Lexus? Chevy or Cadillac? Nissan or Infiniti? The answer is clear to me. |

Get what will truly make you happy. My first Rolex was a deal.. but not what I really wanted, which was the BLNR. I've since traded up, and couldn't be happier. Only You know what will truly make that happen.
