maybe the vintage forum is for you!
I think the problem is that the rest of the watch still gets beat to heck, so after a while it kind of looks like a nicely worn vintage car with brand new, shiny rims.

I never understand why people complain about the scratches on the Exp II bezel. You mean, like the scratches all over the rest of the watch???

The only thing I'm worried about with the Daytona C is the likelihood of me banging the raised and exposed ceramic ring on a regular basis. The other ceramic bezels are protected to some degree by the metal bezel. Time will tell.
I don't like it in the other sport models because I don't like the high gloss shine. It is much more reflective than my old school insert.
YMMV.

Both are great in their own way but I prefer aluminum because of the matte look, and the fact that I can change it myself. I also love the look of a well-worn watch, but I can certainly understand how others would like to keep the bezel like new.

I have watches with both aluminum and Cerachrom bezels and appreciate the attributes of both. I'm not too hard on watches, so I don't get fade, scratch or dent issues with aluminum. But for someone active in the outdoors the Cerachrom makes more sense, although you will find threads on TRF where they have chipped or cracked after an impact. Plus Cerachrom is much more expensive to replace. Also, sometimes I prefer the stronger more vibrant colors of an anodized aluminum bezel such as the 5-digit Pepsi versus the newer BLRO. My 2 cents. Cheers!

The contrast between the c bezel and other parts of watch will look cool long term.

Beat-up bezels detract from a watch's appearance unless you covet the worn look, which I do not., for the same reason that the resale price would take a hit.

I personally hate bezel insert scratches. It is like a scratch on a dial. So ceramic is perfect for me.

Besides, (and I am gonna get flamed for this), I think the vintage thing is also a fad. It comes, and it will go.

Ceramic bezels do scratch.

You just have to try harder.

These watches are a fad in general. Vintage doubly so.

It's strictly binary: They either look brand new, or completely destroyed (shattered). Me no likey. Zero ceramic.

They do scratch and mark (but not easily), and get a little dirty of course. I have owned several of both alu and ceramic.

Anyway, after 12+ years of ceramic inserts this topic feels tired and played out. I've yet to hear an owner of a ceramic insert complaining about it looking too new

It is funny...I once loved vintage watches with patina and faded bezels. Hated modern Rolex. Last year I did a complete 180 and have gradually sold off my vintage pieces and replaced with modern.

Exactly. The mechanical watch industry itself is a vintage style fad at this point. Going out and buying them based on new tech is a bit like buying today's best typewriter.

so is a combustion engine.

if you dont like ceramic bezels no problem, just dont buy them.

rolex obviously thinks they are better.

Amen Clive.

Agree that it is great to have both aluminum & ceramic.

Variety is the spice of life...and all that.

It's all the American "heritage" brand stuff, driven by guys coming of age and wanting to reclaim all the "manly" stuff that their dad's gave up - carrying a briefcase (Filson), wearing leather soled shoes (Alden), shaving with a safety razor, and wearing a mechanical watch chiefly among them.

That's not to say it's bad, but having been into watches since before this happened... things have changed. I won't be sad if the fad follows move into something else.

I hate patina, I see enough "patina" when I look in the mirror every morning. I don't want to put it on my wrist and wear it!
