Looks great Al! Hope you can find a decent chain to put it on now. Though its nowhere as significant a piece as this watch, I should be getting the pocket watch I took in for service/restoration to the guy you referred me to tommorow.

This is easily the most amazing restoration thread I have ever read on TRF. I felt like I was going on an archeological adventure! What a beautiful piece of history and horology.

Absolutely amazing.

Hi gang, here are a couple of before and after pix of a worn metal bushing which Bob replaced with a jewel. The other 2 jewels aren't visible from this side.

Dear Al
We recently inherited a watch.
We did a bit of research and found this forum. Your restored 1908 W&D watch has the same engraved signs and I suspect it might be from the same time.
I have emailed Bob Ridley and asked him for his expert opinion.
I'm really looking forward to see what he can do with it.
Regards
Carmen
PS sorry for my ignorance but how do I attach a picture?

Wow!

I have just read your post and am in a state of shock because I have just acquired an identical watch!

My watch has serial number 3078 engraved on the case.

I have had the watch cleaned and serviced and it is in full working order. It keeps excellent time considering that it was made in 1908!

Do you know how I can get this watch valued?

a Bob Ridley restoration of a 1908 W&D

I remember seeing this post!

I sure hope that many years down the road, specialist watchmakers like Mr. Ridley will still exist to restore the timepieces that we hold dear to this level.
