5711 - Cal. 324 SC - Not as practical, but quirky and fun?
Calibre 324 SC in the 5711 lacks hacking seconds compared to newer, Calibre 330 SC (c. 2019). Like the anachronism that is the 15202ST anybody like the “outdated” movement for its old-school quirkiness?
Oddly enough, think I’d rather have the 324 SC. This is a non-sensical hobby. |

Nothing quirky about a non-hacking movement, especially at that price point.
A modern Rolls-Royce with cloth seats anyone? |

Who uses the hacking seconds to sync to the exact time? Most Rolex owners don't even realize that their watches have hacking seconds hands. Last edited by cascavel; 3 March 2021 at 08:44 PM.. Reason: Spelling, again. |

I don't mind the 324 SC at all. In terms of looks I prefer the old rotor over that of the 330 SC. Not that it matters much, just like hacking seconds is no big deal IMO. I even think the anachronistic clasp fits the 5711 ok. It all adds to the slightly vintage vibe of the watch and works just fine once you got used to it. |

I want to say the same thing. The AP 15400, 15500 has more function than the jumbo. But if I can only pick one AP watch, I would choose the jumbo.

I beg to differ....
I suppose I am the exception here. To me the analogy with AP is a bit of a stretch at best of a comparison in rationalizing the quirkiness between the two PP calibers. It is more of apples and oranges, comparing the caliber 324 SC/330 SC to the AP 2121/3120.
On the AP they are completely different watches (15202 vs 15xxx) that house the calibers. The origin of the 15202 caliber is late 60's. Not to mention the obvious different size cases, functions ( seconds - no seconds), BPM and finishing of the calibers (machine vs hand). None of that applies to the Nautilus. It is the same watch with an enhanced caliber. I would prefer the enhancement of the hacking seconds. It is troubling to me when modern calibers that have a second hand don't have a hacking seconds function. That would include my 5227 and FPJ CS. |

A better analogy would be perhaps a Rolls with a carburetor. Still just as luxurious and even some theoretical quirky advantages , but inconvenient and old fashioned.
