Stella Dial

I see there are couple of Stella Dial DDs on ebay for a HUGE amount of money. I had no idea they demanded that kind of premium. Anyone know more about these dials?

This thread should b in vintage section I think. Anyway, Stella dials are enamel lacquered dial. They were made in the 70's but not popular, but those bright glossy colors though. So of course with anything vintage nowadays, the prices went through the roof. That said, the finishing on the dials and color variations are truly something to b seen in person. Beautiful dials. I wish I have more than 2.

I blame it on the autoconnect.

They are Marlon Brando's favourite so fetch screamingly high prices.

The green is epic. The examples that went in the Phillips Geneva Auction 5 are stunning.

The two I see on ebay seem a bit extreme in the pricing. Not sure I'd use those as references for pricing.

If I'm not mistaken, they were made for Italian market, but mostly sold in Middle East. Stella is star in Italian a name given by Italian collectors.

Thanks I've never seen or held one but from the pictures they do look nice and wish more DJ with these enamel dials be released by Rolex as retro pieces. Like the red Stella up there.

Stellas are pricey but demand kind of went down the last couple of years. Can't say exactly why but I am guessing due to the number of fakes available and the overall availablity of these. Personally I wouldn't dare to buy one as there are so many refinished dials around. If I bought one I would buy one from a very reputable dealer or auction house at a high premium just to be able to sleep at night and feel certain I could re-sell it in the future. Not buy ome from ebay or the average joe in the market. Stellas are super scary..

I was thinking the same thing, seems rather easy to fake
