Annual Calendar - Patek vs Lange

Hi all,

Put this in the other watches forum as it would probably be a whitewash in the Patek forum! Recently compared the Lange Saxonia Annual Calendar against the Patek Perpetual Calendar 3940, and surprisingly the poll went in favour of the former, probably because the 3940 was aesthetically less appealing, according to many.

I wonder how it the Saxonia AC would fare against the Patek 5205G, which seems to be a forum favourite. Would be considering the lighter grey dial.

Pics below taken from google.

Cheers all!

I don't own either but have handled in person both... the Lange is very 'straightforward ' for lack of a better word, although perfect in execution, while the patek has a unique flair, a design element that makes it more aesthetically softer, again purely subjective in my opinion...I was very impressed with Lange for it's aesthetics running across the while range, giving great cohesion to the entire catalogue and being a resent to it's aesthetic perfection...patek is more broad in design and presents restrained as well as flamboyant pieces..both killer choices.

I like the Lange more, the moonphase pops out more.
And I do not like the appearance of the windows on the Patek.

How about compare it to the more sportive 5726/1a, as once may wanted to use it on formal and informal ? as both dial are white ?

5205G. The dial is more legible and the case is nicer.

I prefer the Lange. The useless 24h complication on the Patek gets way too much attention on the dial IMO.

If the 5205 was the R with black dial then 5205 by a mile but in this case I will say the Lange.

3940 > ALS annual > 5205 in my opinion

I'm shocked that people thought the 3940 wasn't aesthetically pleasing...

I agree and didn't even pay attention or see that mentioned. Only looked at pics so in this case 3940 for sure!

I am a big fan of Lange but in this case I am going to go with the Patek. I feel the indices on the Lange dial is a bit small. I like larger indices.

I love the 5205 in RG, but given this comparison I'd go with the Lange.

Both are quite nice, but prefer the bolder look of the Patek

I would be very hypercritical if I voted for anything other than the Patek 5205G.:)))

Appreciate the thoughts all. Have to say that at this point, I'm leaning ever so slightly to the Lange. Have a lot of time to think about it while replenishing the kitty though!
