Panerai purchase questions

Hello,
I’m considering buying a panerai
Specifically; Panerai Luminor Marina OP6518 Manual wind Men’s Wrist Watch 44mm

I was able to haggle down to $2800 cash meet in person. I’m wondering if that is a good deal? The watch has some wear, and multiple scratches on the watch case back and could use cleaning but has zero mechanical issues and has no winding problems.

No boxes or papers

I’m hoping this will be my new daily watch. I love panerai but can’t afford new. And the scratches bother me but atleast it’s the back.

which model is it? Post pics of the front.

Sadly there are some really good fakes out there of this generation Panerais. IMO unless the seller has an excellent reputation, OR you can independently verify authenticity, there's a good chance you may be buying a $2,800 fake. I'd personally want to see the case back opened and inspect the movement too.

The seller is on eBay and has 7000 all positive and is a top seller. He happens to be 3 hours away from me for a separate show this weekend and said we could meet.

Thanks for the info! He said it was from the late 1990s so if it’s 2000 that makes sense or is pretty close so I guess makes sense eh?
Thanks

Any feedback on if it looks authentic or on the movement.

The seller doesn’t have much info when I ask. Thanks

That’s a pretty old Panerai and seems pretty beat up. I’d spend another $1000 and get something cleaner from a trusted dealer.

That’s a good point. I also really like the panerai with the clear open backs. I may just wait and pay the extra $750 to get one of those in better shape.

I’m tempted by $2800 tho but it is really beat up.

it's a 20 yr old watch which has obviously not been well looked after. I personally would pass solely based on the condition.

However If you really want this piece, then go to the paneristi website and post your photos. The old school guys there will immediately know if the movement and dial are legit or fake.

Good Luck!

This watch looks fake to me. I don't recall the plates ever looking like that and I've owned Panerai's for over 20 years. Something doesn't look right.

For extra 1,000 you can get a new one - different model. Why buy used?

I ended up getting this instead since it has a return policy in case it’s not authentic.

It doesn’t come with the crown or protector. I’m not sure what that means, I think it’s the plastic piece. It has box but no papers
