I wouldn't like to make comparisons about this with the Daytona. I've always been a fan of the Daytona but this cut right through the love. However, am not letting my guard down. Congrats on this piece

Congratulations. I can't agree more and made the same choice last month. I absolutely love this watch. It's everything I wanted in a chrono, and some.

I agree with many of the opinions already stated. If this watch were smaller, say 40mm, and the dial variants were narrowed down to 2 options, say a white and a black, the Omega would absolutely get my money over the Daytona. I prefer a 2 register chronograph over a 3 register one. The date adds to the functionality but is placed in an inconspicuous location with a disk that matches the dial color. You have many options of Omega Nato straps, steel bracelet (with adjustable clasp), or leather straps. And needless to say, the 9900 movement is no slouch although the 4130 in the Daytona is impressive in its own right. The Daytona wins on its size, great history, and value retention (being a Rolex). If price were not a consideration, I think the Omega holds its own against the Daytona. However, considering that the Omega is just about $4,000 cheaper than the Daytona, it would be a no brainer for me if the size was right.

Though I like Rolex I’m less a fan of the Daytonas. Or at least, I’m completely fed up with the speculative secondary market price insanity of the Daytonas. And the Speedys are outstanding and iconic watches - no doubt. That said I have a hard time comparing them toe to toe. To me they occupy different parts of the markets with the Speedys being more authentically tool watches aka - built to be used.

I have a daytona and can tell you the Omega is 1) a far better value and 2) actually far more functional period. This last part is simply not a debate-but reality. The Daytona does not have enough hash marks and the since creates massive legibility problems and as others above mentioned actually has a date. The rarity of the Daytona blinds most and they are unable to see the serious downsides of the model. Im not saying it does not have a plus side, but I can view that model objectively.

My only issue with the Omega is the size, I find it a bit too large from my wrists.

Yeah! Speedys are truly build to be used!!

Speculative secondary market -circus has affected many to loose some interest in Rolex as a brand. There are plenty of many interesting watch brands!!
