16520 Advices

Hi mates, I'm lookibg for a 16520 unpolished , no serviced parts, black dial inverted 6 dial. Here are 3, what's your opinion, for which one you'd go and why?

Many thanks considering my request !

All of those have been polished....so not sure why you are looking at them if you want unpolished example?? All the bezels show Polish with blurry numbers. The last one has replacement bezel also

I didn't know that all have been polished ! Thanks ! I really don't know how to recognize that, if a 16520 has been polished or not...

However in the description of the last it is written :

"This specific watch is truly collectible:
...
- MK 3 bezel (correct with E7 serial)
- The green caseback sticker is still firmly affixed to the unpolished caseback.
..."

Total rubbish then?!

Yes rubbish....find a NOS 16520 and study the bezel, crisp black numbers. I have a couple nos bezels so it’s easy for me to see and I have multiple zeniths. If the numbers are blurry or worn down they have been polished...the last example look at the words on the bezel they have large spacing between the letters. That’s a replacement bezel same as on a 116520 not proper for an inverted 6....they very last batches of luminova SEL zeniths can have that bezel but no tritium zeniths we’re fitted with that bezel...there is also a black dial fake inverted 6 on chrono24 so be careful

Everybody wishes and claims they have unpolished 16520 but 90% are not true unpolished examples

Not easy ! a NOS inverted 6 is not easy to find, I found next to my place a floating inverted 6 for US$ 60k...and a NOS from 2000 but both are not really comparable...

This is the one with the incorrect bezel...and look at the subdial with 6 and 9...they look nothing like the other examples they are blurry and the 9 is almost closed together....I seriously doubt this is a legit dial and I would bet a lot of money it had been altered or fake all together

Nos examples are easy to find at 50k and up.... I am just saying find pics to compare. There is always a few nos examples on chrono and there was one here on TRF last week. Easy to find yes, easy to buy lol Hell no

Now I see the 6 and especially the 9 are very bad ! Does is worth it to buy a 16520 NOS luminova and SEL from 2000? I mean as a watch collector, as a collectible watch? I don't talk about selling it in some years, I for sure keep the watches I buy!

My personal opinion is open up to white dial inverted 6, they are just as beautiful and then you can find a near mint example easier looking for either dial

Hi mates, this one is not inverted 6 but what do you think? Also is it unpolished?

The Zenith Daytona ain't that rare. Period! That is with the exception of porcelain ones. There are many of them out there. Unless money grows on tree for you, take your time....

Hey, as the owner of MANY full set 16520s, I would love to get $50K for my A serial safe queen

Mate, there is this saying:

"A fool and his money will soon be parted!".

Just don't believe the hype. There are many of them around. Don't pay stupid money for them. Yes, they are nice and all. BUT....

I'd bet ya I'd get more than $50K for my (some called light Patrizzi) full set ( even comes with the original plastic bezel cover (never serviced, never polished safe queen) :

Thanks 1665fan, always there to answer me

So you find the price really to high for this full set unpolished one?

Best.

Not really high but on the high side of the spectrum, but black dial zeniths generally go for more. Nice watch though and I’d be happy with it at high twenties US

Which price shall I propose him? What would be a final fair price? Best.

For this purchase I would look to established dealers who often float their stock on Instagram. I've seen a number of unpolished/potentially unworn black dial 16520's pop up recently from the likes of Kevin Acuna, Eric Ku and Fog City Vintage. Best of luck with the hunt.

A case back being unpolished doesn’t mean the entire watch is unpolished
