My dads Day-Date President

Hi everyone one! First post here. I lost my dad last year to cancer and inherited 3 of his watches (Tudor Sub 7928, Rolex DateJust 1601, and Rolex Day-Date President 18038). Ive been researching all three but was hoping to get some more insight into the Day-Date as I believe there are some aftermarket parts on it. I don’t plan on changing it or selling just wanting to get some more info on it. Thanks again for any info any of you can provide!

Not an expert, but I think this completely authentic as well.
USA bracelet is like none I’ve seen, but could have been when some Rolex bracelets were made USA for import cause reasons.
I’m not sure the official name for the Rolex “fancy” watches of models like this day-date, but they are made official Rolex and generally much pricier than there more mundane siblings.
Great watch; quite blingy, but way cool since your father purchased it, enjoy it!

Thanks for the reply! My mom told me that the guy he bought it from was a close friend with a shop (possibly an AD) that sold watch’s as well as bracelets and services to add diamonds. That’s what gave me thought that it might have some aftermarket parts.

I do agree it is quite blingy! The Tudor and DateJust are more my speed with this one as a “special occasions” watch. Although, my dad wore it randomly so I guess every day was a special occasion for him :).

Rolex certainly made dials like that, I think called “Pleiade” dials.

I believe that the bezel, dial and band are aftermarket. If the band is genuine, the diamonds were definitely added aftermarket.

I looked up the Pleiade dials and they look identical to this one. I do still think either the diamonds were added to the bracelet or its aftermarket. I noticed all the Rolex bracelets with diamonds I’ve found online are rows of 4 vs rows of 3.

Why would the Rolex clasp have an american flag, statute of liberty and Made in USA hallmarks? Is that how OEM bracelets were made? I didn’t know Rolex made anything in the USA?

They did, C&I bracelets for example. Try google.

Thanks! It’s the one I wear the most. Well it’s pretty much the only one. The Datejust has a stretched bracelet that doesn’t fit my wrist even at the smallest micro adjustment and the Day Date is too much for daily wear.

They are both fantastic! If it were me, i would have them both serviced, not polished, and wear them with peace of mind for the next decade. Sorry about your loss, but these are a great way to remember.

both of these watches are WILD!! I've never seen a DD like that before; and while not my cup of tea it is at the very least a conversation peice, and obviously special in that it belonged to your father. That Tudor though; that is quite a watch! If it runs I'd be wearing it right now! It's pretty special that you have these keepsakes to remember your father; sorry for you loss but treasure these things he's left you.

Thanks. That is the plan, to have all three serviced! I am not sure when the last time, if ever they were serviced. I also want to get the Jubilee bracelet on the DJ fixed. A few folks have recommended Rolliworks to me.

Thanks, I definitely will. It's, funny I have found myself wearing my dads Tudor more and more and my own watches less and less.

Mike at rolliworks is a really nice guy. He can take care of that jubilee for sure.
