Aquanaut 5066 Question

The 5066 is much more affordable than the 5167 in secondary market. Is this attributable to case size (5066 being mid-size and less in-demand)? I don’t know enough to appreciate the market delta.

Both beautiful watches. Thanks in advance.

I have owned a 5066 from new, and I absolutely love it. The market delta may be due to the size, but the age of the watches (my own personal watch is two decades old), and the more idiosyncratic, vintage detailing and looks may contribute too. Nowadays, it is quite diminutive, but on the right wrist - mine is 6" - it can look fabulous.

well i would have to say possibly she has a factor into the price. as someone (hopefully) pulling the trigger in some months on a 5167a, i wouldn’t want a watch much more that 5-7 years old. case size has probably something to do with it to.

Just a different style watch - has an older appearance compared to the 5167.
Case Size
Strap
Plot Patina
Dial

I think the 5065 would be a better comparison to the 5167. The 5066 is a small watch and this is coming from someone with a tiny wrist!

5065a is a great size for a small male wrist, and is priced accordingly. 5066 is way too small for most men, so a lot less demand and much lower prices.

It definetly wears smaller than the modern models but I love the smaller size. It gives a bit more of a vintage vibe to it. Both ergonomics and the understatement aspect makes it a great daily. Been wearing mine 14 days straight

It's a gorgeous piece - I want to love it - just a hair too small...

Is it your AD or boutique that won't source you one?

It definitely wears on the smaller side. I have two offshores in my collection and this is quite a different experience on the wrist

I just a few weeks back purchased a spare green strap as well as a blue one from my AD. I actually asked what color options I had for my model.

5066 appreciation thread, here I am.
Amazing textured dial, vintage vibe, tritium hands for the first year's of production, discontinued model... 5064, 5065 and 5066 are the best Aqua's to me :)
Here's mine.

Hi, wondering if there is a buyer's guide of some sort for the 5066? Was there any differences in dials or movements, configurations etc over the years etc or is it best just to try and buy the most recently manufactured year as possible?

And what would be the best place to look for price guides etc.

Thank you!

The patina on the markers almost matches the gold case perfectly. Lovely piece!

So are there tritium and non-tritium 5066s? Which is preferable?

Tritium or not tritium

Early 5066's : tritium
Latest 5066's : non tritium

Tritium gives a more vintage vibe, with its yellow-ish patina, which in my opinion is great on this kind of discontinued models. On the other hand, tritium lifespan is around 10-20 years. Which means that if you buy a 5066, you shall not enjoy any in-the-dark hours indexes.

Genuine collectors looking for authenticity and historical pieces will tend to get tritium, since those were the first aqua's. But tbh, both are great and what matters the most is the watch itself. Tritium or not is nothing but a detail to many people I guess!

There is a huge difference in sourcing a green strap for a low demand 5066 with straight case ends as compared to the super high demand strap for a 5167 with the rounded case ends.
