Winding 5270

Hello, I recently purchased a 5270. It's my first manual wind watch and I'm concerned that I may not be winding it enough. I talked to HSWA and they instructed me to wind until I feel "resistance." I've found that to be a pretty abstract concept.

For folks that have this reference, do you find the resistance is a sudden pushback and prevents you from winding further or is it gradual? Does the fact that the crown turns back counterclockwise after a wind indicative of being fully wound?

I wind the watch every morning and it typically lasts at least those 24 hours, but sometimes I wake up and find that it has stopped after ~20 hours.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

For me, it's sudden resistance. Super smooth and consistent resistance until it is fully wound. Then, it's a rather firm resistance with a bit of bounce back. 22-23 turns for 24 hours for me.

I always wind my 5370 20-25 turns.

In my experience, the 5270 has a little resistance to start, then is suuuuper smooth, but does indeed have a slight bounce back... and then you hit a wall. It's pretty obvious.

Correct. You should be able to wind it till you feel that wall. If you don't, it might be a mainspring issue (you should feel a wall and resistance, otherwise something might not be working properly).

I don’t really get the question. You wind the crown until it is fully wound and it cannot be wound further. It is really very obvious. If it is not, either the mainspring is shot or you have not wound enough.

Thanks everybody. I didn’t understand there was a wall - figured there would be gradual resistance. Makes sense now. Appreciate your help. Gratuitous wrist shot:

It takes around 50 turns for my 5270 to get fully wound.
The feeling of fully wound is quite sudden and definite. You won't miss it. No worries.

my patek AD boutque manager once told me that in patek, you can count each turn as one hour, so if yur watch is 40 hour power reserve then you need to turn the crown 40 turns to get it sully wound. so that is one way for you
another way is that most manually wound pateks have a over wounding mechanism whis so sort of click and you feel it in the corwn, so once you feel that you know you reached the maximum (and don't worry you won't damage the momvement).
this is actully one of the reasons i believe having a power reserve indicator is extremly useful (like my 5146 or 5712)
