3796 wrist pics/discussion
Hi Everyone,
I am really drawn to the 3796 calatrava - I’m aware it’s small at 31mm but I don’t have big wrists and the design just speaks to me being the original dimensions of the 96. However I have not had the chance to see the watch in person and I would really appreciate to see some owner photos (as well as wrist size) as these aren’t widely available. TIA! |

So I have both the 3796 and 3723. As between the two, the 3923 is the better choice. It wears larger than its stated size, it has a bezel which does not show scratches and it is fit with a larger winding crown making winding easy. On the other hand, the 3796 wears small, has a sharp angled bezel easily scratched and can be hard to wind if your fingers are puffy. Both are beautiful watches. Lug width for the 3796 is 19mm and 18mm for the 3923 with a Patek buckle at 14mm.
Prices on all Patek watches are going up and these were sleepers. Try to find one with the right buckle. The older style is much more elegant as is on my 3923. |

How about a 5196? I think that is such a great representation of the Calatrava.
Like a 124060 is to a 5513 Or is it too big? |

5196 wears larger than you might expect at 37mm given it is mostly dial (ie. Small bezel), dial itself is clean, and watch is thin.
This is coming from someone who wears a 40mm vintage Rolex gmt // a 34.5mm vintage omega constellation. I have a 7” wrist. Will share a photo once my post count hits 10 :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you for all the replies - I must admit I had forgotten about this thread after 3 months! The other options seem to be the 5096 and 5023. Not easy to find much about them !

Here is my 3796R. I have 6.75 inch wrists, and love it. It is on the small side, but IMO wears larger than its 31mm.
I have not tried the 3923, 5023, or 5096, so I cannot speak to them. I believe that the 5096 only came in yellow gold, if that is relevant to your decision. I have tried the 5196, and found that despite its 37mm, it wore like a dinner plate on my wrist. |
