Just purchased orig owner 1972 oyster date

Hi All,

Just got this one owner oyster date SS in today. Looks pretty clean, serviced by rolex 14 months ago. Came with inner and outer boxes, paperwork, hang tags, back sticker, xtra links. Wondering what I should do with it? To polish or leave alone.....that is the question? Its only original once. What do you guys think would be best approach to maintain or increase its value? Take a look.

SS Oyster Date

Thanks guys. I dont see too many this old with as complete packages often. Any opinions for a newbie on what if anything I should or could do to the watch to make it a better collectors item? I am thinking of just polishing it by hand myself with red and blue wenol. there seems to be only very light scratches which I think will come out this way. Ideas?

I wouldn't polish it at all. If you get it serviced, a pro will do it without removing too much metal. Remember, it's only original once. Beautiful watch BTW. Just re read your thread. Since it was serviced so recently, I'd leave it alone until it's next service.

Nice watch, Congrats.

Definitely do not polish it by hand. Hard to tell by some of these PICs, but I don't think it looks that bad anyway. My vote would be not to get it polished and leave it the way it is. Keep it original.

I have no idea. Without the goodies maybe in the $1500 range. With -- ?add a thousand?

Definitely do not polish it; it does not need it. Nothing to do to maintain value except do not lose the goodies!

$2000-$2800? Most likely you could get $2200 easily with all the "goodies" Beautiful set though. I have never seen one that complete

Sparten, From your mouth to gods ears LOL ..... Those numbers sound good to me! I am sorry for the oversized pics, I'm not sure why that happened. Will put up some better ones after work. The watch is not bad at all scratch wise. Just normal wear stuff that I am sure will easily come out with very little effort and metal loss. I ordered a can of Cape Cod polishing cloths and a red and blue Wenol . Just not sure if it is worth more the way it is or scratch free? This is my 3rd one this month haha. Just started looking into them and got the bug. I really like the Daytona with a white face!!! Also have the same watch made in 1991 with boxes and paperwork in very good condition with an oyster bracelet and 1968 Jubilee no box or paperwork, authentic for sure, that is out being overhauled as we speak. I'm thinking it's time for one with a darker dial next. The hunt is on.

Congratulations on a great find. I, like many others here, would wear it as is. Wear it in good health.

A 1500 with a full set is a rare find: congrats Very nice with the 'oval' link bracelet. The 1500 is great watch, enjoy!

Leave it as is and enjoy it. Beautiful vintage watch. A classic look with that Oyster dial and jubilee bracelet.
