I think it's a vary versatile watch....Part sport, part dressy. I wear it more as a dressy sports watch. But it's certainly not a dress watch like a JLC Master Control for example.

The entire Oyster line are do anything watches. Dress codes and styles have evolved more than Rolex designs. I think because of this some people perceive them (any brand really) as dressy if they shine or sparkle a little bit. People wear exercise clothes and pajamas out to stores in some places. General standards have been relaxed to the point where a classic and timeless item can look overly fancy to some. Of course I'm only speaking to my area and understand situations are different around the world.
In my thinking the Cellini line are the only true dress watches from Rolex. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a relative who thinks my 116000 with steel dial is too shiny. If he wears a watch at all it's a designer brand piece that's PVD with a black dial and dark gray hands, no lume. You can barely see the time in good lighting. |

I had the white and non-GV black. Both cool but the orange didn't ever feel right. Even so, I still think about another white one.
But I'd be all over something like this, maybe less red and more black detail...but I am not a photoshopper. I really like the Grand Seiko but very hard to find. |
