Explorer II Deal

Hey guys I just wanted to get your opinions on whether I am getting a good deal. My local AD has offered me a new Explorer II Polar at MSRP but agreed to waive the sales tax. This saves me about $688 on a brand new watch. They love to go on and on about how scarce these are, but honestly I see them all over the place.

This is about the difference I would save if I went ahead and purchased it pre-owned. Should I pull the trigger or hold out for a steeper discount?

Seems like a decent discount given the current environment. I personally don’t delay gratification for only saving a few bucks. I would rather wear it now.

Plus, who is to say the discount is going to get better? It could get worse.

One of my favorites. My tool watch - so easy to read.

Discounts on ANY SS Sports models are getting harder and harder to come by. If they are willing to waive the tax and you like the watch then make the move. You also get the 5 year warranty from Rolex which would make the Pre Owned option less appealing in my opinion.

I’d jump on it if I had the money set aside and were looking for an Explorer II. Not too much to think about.

It you like the watch, go for it. Not telling when the market might get better or if it gets worse before it gets better....or if it ever gets better.

This is cray. I remember exp 2 was discounted at least 10-15% off plus no tax. Oh how times have changed...

I asked for and got a discount on my Polar this year. If the dealer had said "no" I still would have bought it. It's what I wanted. The discount was a bonus. I know for a fact that I wouldn't get a discount today from that AD for that watch. Those days are over. For the time being.

Great avatar name!

A friend recently purchased an Ex. II in the airport in Frankfurt and got a slightly better deal after return of VAT, but the deal you are getting is as what he was offered in the states before going abroad.

18 months is a pretty long time ago. My AD had a BLNR in the case multiple times around that same period. A hulk sat in there forever as well as multiple subs and explorers. In Rolex years, 18 months ago was a very different time.

it might be difficult to get a discount on this watch these days, but IMO this model is not "scarce", at least here in the US. I live in NY where the shelves are typically almost all TTs and PMs, but I usually do still see a SS YM and EX2.

At full retail even without the tax, I don't see this as an amazing deal, but I don't think it's bad either. I'd definitely get it if you love the watch.

Actually I'm in the same situation as you. Have insight pre-owned Explorer II only 1.5 year old with all papers and box + rubber b with matching orange stripe for around $6k and no tax. Or buy from AD for $8K no tax. But my dilemma is that I'm on the waiting list for Daytona C which may materialized at the end of the year.
I like Explorer II a lot though. Tough decision.

I bought mine 3 months ago and my AD gave me 7.5% off and no tax or tax included. I did buy 3 Rolexs from them this year so we do get along ok. I'd say do it that's a fair deal for today,, Its going to be a dark Christmas for Rolex customers.

My luck isn't great. I went in to buy the watch yesterday. The dealer set it on the table and asked me to inspect it. Looked it over, and there was a ding on one of the lugs staring back at me. He was very apologetic and clearly not happy as was I. He offered to either double the discount or order me another. I told him that I couldn't buy it with the ding. He said it will probably be another 2 months wait max, but he did order it and is speaking with his rep to see if he can get it expedited.

No clue why the post would require moderation. I submitted it once over an hour ago and it never went up so I just figured the post failed and I tried again.

Because you're new. It's an automatic security measure that keeps out trolls and spammers. After ten posts the software will stop doing it. Like Larry says, once is enough.
