Value your opinion..... two tone sub (black dial) vs gmt (black dial)
I know ultimately it’s what I like best and I did try both on already and man they are both exiquiste pieces so I’m having a very hard time deciding. I’m down to the 116713LN GMT Master II 18K/SS vs 116613LN Submariner 18/SS. I’ve eliminated the sunburst dial as it’s beautiful just not for me.
About my small collection, I currently own a steel datejust and a gmt II coke so that’s one reason I like the Sub as it’s classic and I’d better round out my collection as I’d have the diver, more dress in the datejust, and the traveler in the GMT but same time I do like the look of the GMT, the bezel pops and love the green hand w the gold, travel internationally often, and wouldn’t mind having 2 of the same complications as I do have use for the features. As for price the sub is a tad bit more expensive but not by much and I’ve got good deals in place for both so now just need to decide.... Opinions? Appreciate your thoughts to help me sway one side or the other. Thanks!! Ps- I did see another thread from a while ago but it seemed to cover the sunburst dial as a featured piece so since I’m looking black dial only I went ahead and created this new post. Hope you all don’t mind! |

I have a ‘68 1675 Pepsi and an 116710LN GMT. The green GMT is amazing! If you like two-tone, I’m sure you’ll love the ‘13LN.

I say give the sub a shot, why not??
Just to try something different. If you’re not about that, I’m sure the GMT2 and your coke are different enough that they can both be part of the collection |

I'd vote for the 116713LN GMT Master II 18K/SS.

I think the 5 digit GMT TT is better looking...one of the best around, IMO. It would balance out your coke nicely, too.
But, between the two you listed, I would go sub. |

I would go for the Sub, prefer the GMT in SS or YG where the large numbers flow better into the same coloured case.

I have owned several of both and based on your collection, I would go with the Submariner. The entire dive line from Rolex is great and the Glide Lock Clasp is worth the price of admission. Once you get used to it you will find your other watches do not have that perfect fit every day.

That's a tough one. Sounds like you really love the sub but your mind is justifying/rationalizing the GMT. Go with your heart.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=501118 Went with the Sub in the end because: 1) It's the 21st century. No one needs a second time zone complication 2) The bezel on the sub is more discrete 3) Its a Sub. 4) The glidelock clasp is better than the easylink

TT sub looks awesome and nothing beats a glide lock clasp.

As a pilot's watch I'd be more inclined to take the GMT. For me, personally, a sub should always be SS.

I don’t normally pick the Sub for anything and I don’t own one. In this case I think I prefer the Sub. I’ve never been fond of the gold numbers on the GMT with a black dial and bezel. They seem to dominate the watch for some reason.
Both are great watches and congratulations in advance regardless of your choice!

Agree with most others. Sub fits in with your collection nicely. Also until you have tried a glide lock, you just do not know.

For your collection, the Sub. I think an all stainless model would be the best choice though.

Thanks all for your opinions, and appreciate calling out the glidelock on the Sub as I didn’t consider that feature prior to bringing it up here (very tempting as I’ve read and heard amazing things about it. Dare I say more that once you have going back will be near impossible!). :). Plus my primary home is in Boca and the weather deviations and occasional wrist bloat the glidelock could come in handy.
I’ve the Sub lean moreso than before now....getting close. Keep the opinions coming! |

Devildog, thanks for sharing the link. Looks like you went with the sub, how are you still Liking it? Everything you could ask for, any regrets not going w the GMT?

As someone who owns watches with both easylink and glidelock I have to pitch In and say, I have never had a problem getting an easylink bracelet to fit comfortably and the glidelock clasp looks way too big compared to any other clasp I have used. That being said, the range and precision of sizing on the glidelock really does make it the more versatile if weirder looking of the two clasps.
As for which watch to get, I prefer the GMT in two tone over the Sub but it’s honestly a very fine distinction.

If black dial is a must, I would go with GMT TT. Maybe the new GMT TT rootbeer?
If you must have a sub, then I would go with TT sub blusey or Hulk. That TT black sub just seem not as cool as TT GMT, mainly due to GMT bezel looks way better. IMHO. |

Loved the sub, but got the call a year ago for the SD43 and let the sub go. If I hadn’t it would still be with me.

Large gold numbers on GMT bezel along with the extra hand in the dial make for a very busy gold on black dial/bezel combo with more pop and bling on your wrist. The busy dial is intentional and in line with its pilot’s cockpit look.
Sub will have a more elegant look. Nothing wrong with either one, just which one are you more ok with? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GMT IMO. The bezel is much more harmonious to my eyes. If you’re going for a tt sub, make it a bluesy.
