LOL, I have a sub and GMT, and am looking for a DJ now to round out the collection. But the DJ will probably stay on the winder, doesn't fit with my wardrobe 99% of the time. We'll see.

I feel like 3 is the right amount to have for me. I used to have 4 then decided it was too many, so I sold 2 of them. Now I am back at where I started as I am looking to add a 4th.. this is a disease.

I understand your dilemma, especially if you were not wearing your Datejust. Owning multiple watches can be great but having them sit in a watch box or safe is pointless.

3 is my max. I used to have 6 and it was becoming a token gesture to wear 2 of those out of sympathy that they were safe queens and should see the light of day on occasion.

I have my work watch, my every day watch and my (fingers crossed in a weeks time) dress/formal occasion watch, even then, once I retire, that will go down to 1 watch for every occasion ... the OP39 has already been decided on for that.

If you can’t juggle more than two watches you are buying them for the wrong reasons.

I would sell Sub Date and keep BLNR and DJ 41. Sub and BLNR are both sports watches, OP is out of dress watch now.

I might have been the most content in my collection when I had a YG Daytona and a SS Submariner. Each one had a specific role and time to be worn. I have given up on trying to give all my watches equal wrist time and just wear what I feel like on any given day. It is when a watch does not get worn and I don't think it is special anymore that it gets moved along.

....and that is exactly why it takes me so long to decide which watch I truly love for life and want to buy. At nearly 60, it’s taken me quite a while to get to 5 BUT, I love them all equally so there are no sympathy wears. They are more like excitement wears each time it’s their turn.

My watch for life was probably given far more thought than I should have given it if I'm honest.

My 3 watch collection all have a purpose and a path though

It just depends really, you could juggle based on your outfit and mood, though it's absolutely normal to have a favorite one

I juggle three. My main daily wearer is my Tudor Submariner (75090.Black). My other two are inexpensive: a SS dress watch on a leather strap for Church, suit wear, etc. and a Casio Illuminator for outdoors/exercise.

It works for me.

My main daily weekday watch these days is the GMT Master IIc. On weekends, it just depends on what I am doing and will from four other Rolex watches...

In my opinion, three is not that many to handle.

I was just cracking up.
Wife sees me cleaning my Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II to wear it as that is my normal routine to rinse them whenever I take them out of the safe, and she asks why I am not wearing my new BLNR. I responded by asking her other than first or two weeks of getting a new watch, when has she ever seen me wear the same one two days in a row?
To which she didn’t hesitate to accurately respond, not two weeks yet for the BLNR.
Moral: even 36 years later, on our anniversary date, to be happily married, I continue to be wrong.

As we get older, all roads will lead us to 1 watch only..

It’s ok to color outside the lines. The subc and BLNR are versatile with any situation.

I just set-up a spread sheet to help manage my watch collection and track what I have and what I'm wearing. We'll see how that goes.

I think my ideal number is 3, currently have 4 in rotation. More than that and I feel I'm not enjoying (wearing) them sufficiently. Probably would like to get to one PM, one SS sport/professional and one in between. Would also like more complication diversity, e.g., date, no date, GMT, annual calendar, power reserve.

Alas, I'll never be satisfied. It's a character defect.
