"Inexpensive" Watch to Complement Your Rolex

It seems that most dedicated Rolex enthusiasts seems to also have a G-Shock or some other "inexpensive" watch for yard work, working on the car, etc.

My questions are what do you typically wear for these "chores," and why?

I personally own several Timex watches that work very well for me. I suppose the only drawback is having to change batteries every once in a blue moon.

That's what my Pelagos is for. I have a Sieko SKX007 but I never wear it. The Pelagos is more fun. Also, it's my designated water watch.

My primary beater weekend/beach/pool/yard work/washing the car watch is a Citizen Promaster diver. No battery to change, keeps accurate time, even after sitting unworn for several days.

If the activity isn't safe enough for my Sub, then I don't wear a watch. Yard work, sure. Working on the car, no.

Agree that the pelagos is a great tool watch. Has the looks and functionality of a tool watch. It gets the job done.

I try to switch off watches on a daily basis. I have about 15 watches that range in purchase price from about $150 to $15,000. They all get worn on a regular basis.

A Seiko turtle is my holiday beach/dive watch. Every collection should IMO have a real cheap beater for the dirty work. All that said I know some use their sub for anything and everything

I wore this for years as a police officer so it holds some special meaning to me, I still wear it when doing things where my Rolex might be damaged. On the ladder cleaning gutters, washing the car, going for a run then it's Gshock time. Solar powered, resets itself every night to the atomic clock, these things just can't be beat for the price. Holly and I got her son the same one when he was in the Marines and he wore it as an aerial observer in a Sea Stallion helicopter, he still wears his to this day. Tough inexpensive watches.

The Seiko automatic divers are the best beaters. Very accurate and built like a bomb shelter. Can't go wrong and can do anything even work on your car!

i wear my rolex for outdoor work and expeditions and by far the most dangerous thing i do with it is type on a macbook...the metal edge of the laptop really messes up the clasp and bracelet...so to overcome this hazard i simply put it on a strap

(or just take it off as my computer has a clock )

This. Go anywhere, hiking, diving, you name it. Anything from Altitude meter to temperature read. All in one package. Solar battery supposedly last 10-15 years. Good enough if you were Cast Away in some island.

Another "double-oh-seven" for me too. It's been my daily- doing some pipe fitting and sweating today- a couple nice burns to show for it too.

I bought this retro Casio for CDN$21 only at Amazon.ca. It reminded me of one of many inexpensive watches I had when I was growing up.

There is no job to ornery or dirty, dangerous or cantankerous for a Rolex - having said that, there is a $2 insurance policy that I recommend.

Simply wear a terry cloth wristband over your watch. When you want to see the time, pull it back. When you want to wipe your brow, just run it across.

I use my Pelagos or one of the black bay's in that case. Though my explorer 2 works as well.
