Rhodium vs Slate
Good afternoon. I am curious. I just took delivery from an AD on what I thought was a slate dial for a DJ 41 with diamond markers.....
I had a DJ 2 with Rhodium diamond dial that I have had for over 10 yrs. Isnt the slate dial supposed to be a bit darker then the rhodium??? I will probably go to an AD and see if they have this watch on display and make the comparison. Just thought I would ask here. Thanks for the feedback. |

I just sold my DJ II with rhodium diamond dial that I also had for close to 10 years.
To my knowledge the newer slate dial is different than the older rhodium dial was but I could be wrong. |

Had a slate DJ and rhodium DJ. The color is definitely different. But I would say Slate was LIGHTER than rhodium. I’ll try and find a pic…

Best I could find but yes, rhodium is like a metallic sunburst charcoal. Slate was more much more gray.

My understanding is that rhodium and slate are exactly the same. Just a name change.

I have often wondered about the difference between the two. I have a transitional YM40 with the new 70-hour movement but prior to the transition to Slate. The Rhodium dial is a beautiful dark great that absolutely comes alive in the light. Here is what mine looks like...

I agree with you. The reality is, I updated to the slate, as a client of mine had one in Honolulu and it looked a bit darker then the rhodium that i had with the DJ2.
Even the bill from the AD, lists the watch as Dark Rhodium, but on Rolex.com it is slate. This is perplexing.....LOL |
