Wow, just up the street from San Diego! Is there more information about this incident?

EDIT: a little bit of digging and found this video with the victim's account. Very scary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OolaqaZAh_E

Holy hell what a crazy incident. If you're gonna do ftf transactions, seek out safe exchange zones in your area. These are located in police stations and will mitigate a lot of risks for both parties.

I'm sorry, that guy's story sounds like about 75% BS.

I'm not saying his watch wasn't stolen. But the whole part about him chasing the thief, grabbing the door handle, banging on the hood of the car, and jumping out of the way at the last minute before getting run over sounds ridiculous. He has watched too many action movies, and he wants us to think that he is some kind of tough guy. I don't buy it for a minute.

However, it is still a good reminder for people to be more aware of their surroundings. This guy clearly walks around fairly oblivious, as many people do. He is lucky all he lost was a watch.

Hmm, I'm very familiar with this location (I get my morning coffee to the right of this bank). In all do respect, something sounds off... Literally the police dept is on the other side of the freeway from where this happened.

I wouldn't list or sell a broken lawnmower on Craigslist.

When he called the prospective buyer and he said he was “in the bathroom”...that was your red flag and then when the call went to voicemail he should have been hyper vigilant and gotten the F out of there immediately. Also, always back your car into spots if your making these kind of in person transactions as it will help from someone sneaking up on you and allow a fast getaway if necessary.

Oh gosh, that's just shameful someone would do that.

When using Craigslist, you have to control everything pertaining to the sale. I've sold some very high end vehicles using Craigslist without a hitch. I sold my 114060 off of craigslist to a fellow member here.

That's good to know. I did sell a couple auto garage items from my business on site a few years ago and no problem. Like you said, you have to control the situation.
