New Addition 3861 Speedy SS

I owned a 40mm Speedy racing for a year or so and loved the watch other than the color I picked (lesson learned there) so I let it go a year ago with the intentions of picking up a moonwatch eventually. Well that happened this last weekend as I grabbed the new 3861 sapphire sandwich, what a great watch!

It wears so much smaller than a 42mm which I read ahead of time but was still nervous about since my SMP300 at 42mm is a little too big on my wrist I've grown to realize. Was so glad when I put it on and saw how perfect it sat on my wrist thanks to the lug to lug as well as bracelet which perfectly hugs the wrist. I'm 6.5-6.75'' somewhere and it fits perfect on me.

I have a vintage DJ36 on jubilee which I've always said is one of my favorite most comfortable bracelets and this feels identical. If I was blindfolded and you put one on I wouldn't be able to guess which was which.

The lack of an on the fly micro adjustment is the only negative I have. I've really struggled to get a perfect fit. Have already added a link and then taken it back off the next day and I'm settled on basically leaving it slightly tighter than I'd normally wear it but still somewhat comfortable.

Anyways nothing new or earth shattering here but wanted to share my thoughts. This will probably come to work with me almost daily for the foreseeable future which I was not expecting when I bought it. This is my first manual wind watch and there's something satisfying about waking up and giving it a wind and going on with your day that I really enjoy.

It joins his cousin as well hope these two are together for a long long time. Maybe will also hang with his 42mm cousin as well for a bit we'll see.

Congrats on the new speedmaster. Good to know that it wears smaller (gonna check one out soon)
The SMP300 ceramic in your picture is 41mm btw. I have the same and still one of my favorites. Also what kind of rubber strap is that on the SMP?
And does your new speedmaster actually wear smaller then the 41mm SMPc?

Sweet! Cool Omega

A vintage Datejust and a Speedmaster Pro make a great pair

Yes that one is 41mm I also have a newer 42mm (the blue bezel/chrome dial) that is the one I was referring to. I think I’ll hang onto it for a bit but I definitely love the pictured no wave SMP300 a lot more.

On my wrist I think the speedy wears real similar to the 41mm SMP maybe slightly smaller. Both seem to work a lot better for me than the new SMP but I have a sentimental attachment to it since I bought that one on my Switzerland trip so thats why i think ill keep for a bit.

The rubber strap is from zealande. Pricey but good quality and perfect fit and liked it enough that i bought a second white one.

Stunning. Have you considered adjusting the clasp to a micro-adjustment version. There are a couple of variants, one slightly smaller than the standard Seamaster but still offers plenty of adjustment. Fully respect some do not like to change their watch in this way, and the replacement clasp does not say "Speedmaster" on it. But I changed mine and never looked back - so comfortable and on the fly adjustment, and the original sits nicely in the box without a single scratch on it. Got the parts from an OB, which also required two alternate links that blend nicely. If you're interested I can send the part numbers from my receipt - think all in $350 or so.

Congrats.

I have a 6.5" wrist and was able to get the bracelet right. Only in cold weather does it get a little loose, but I'm used to that with my other watches too. I've never had a Rolex to try the micro adjust, guess I don't know what I'm missing.

But I agree, the new Speedmaster wears so well, slimmer case, shorter lug to lug, etc.

Ah good to know. Was looking for a rubber strap, I believe Omega even has OEM straps that will fit the SMPc, unfortunately they only have XL version of these rubber straps

Sure send over the part number that would be great! I think I have it dialed in better now but especially during summer months I'm a huge fan of on the fly adjusting.

I have an Omega one as well that I haven't put on the watch since the day I got the Zealande strap in. I'd give them a shot if you're in the market very good service too. Both times they shipped from France to Chicago in 3-4 days. One got delivered at 8pm on a Sunday night I was like it's not that urgent guys but awesome!
