Patek 5296R

I've been looking for a simple 3 hand dress watch for a while. The Patek 5296 was way out of my league but I came across a nce used example and having seen one I managed to persuade myself (and more importantly my wife) that this would be my last ever watch purchase.....

So here it is.......a teaser pic before I post a review.

Stunning!!!!! I have been looking at that exact piece for over a year now. But I just haven't been able to pull the trigger for a new one. Kudos to you for finding one pre-owned and adding a classic to your collection. Wear it in good health! I will be on the lookout for your review!

Considering buying the same watch...

I'm currently considering pulling the trigger on this exact model and was curious to know if you think the hands are large enough to read the time easily and if they look appropriate on the dial. Specifically, I mean that the minute hand doesn't appear to be much longer than the hour hand - how does it look to you on your wrist? Your observations are greatly appreciated!

Hi JRA,

I had the same misgivings about the hands. The minute hand is only slightly longer than the hour hand which I thought would be an issue for quickly reading the time. In practice it is very easy and not an issue.

In fact the hands are a god example of amazing attention to detail. The minute hand exactly touches the tip of the minute markers. There is practically no overlap at all. Also the tip of the hand is exactly the same width as the printed marker. The thin tip of the hand also means its easy to read the date when the hand is over the date window. Something that drives me mad on other watches.

There is a little gap between the hour hand and the inner hour ring so your brain automatcally spots the configuration of the hands.

I'll post an honest full review shortly as the watch does have some negatives.

Just a stunning piece and a classic Patek. It's the kind of Patek that's the perfect addition to any collection. Well done!

Thanks, John

I appreciate your input. I'm very curious to know what flaws/issues you see with the watch. Until now my only concern was the hands but your insight has helped reduce that concern. Looking forward to your review. -José-
