Discount on a 5205R-10 ?

Hi guys, I'm planning to buy the Patek Philippe 5205R-10 and I've read some of you were able to get some serious discount from ADs, can you share your personal experience?

Personally never had a discount on any PP I have purchased. 5205 is a beautiful piece and I love the case design.

Well that would depend what he was buying. You not going to get a discount anywhere if you are talking about 5131 and 5711.

Just talked to a friend who bought a 5205R last year in Taiwan, he got 15% off (15% off is the on going rate for VIP on unpopular pieces) plus he has an American passport so he got tax refund, in total close to 20% off.

5205R MSRP in Taiwan is $1,459,000 NTD.

You have limited edition/extremely hard to obtain pieces so no surprise not getting any discount. I have been offered discounts for annual calendars/chronographs some times up to 15% without any negotiation but not for any nautilus or aquanauts.

Russell, you bought the 5711P and 5131R, those are clearly not your average Patek watches and I doubt anyone would even ask a discount for pieces like this, I certainly wouldn't, but for pieces like 5146, 5205 and others which do relatively poor on resale, I don't think anyone would buy them at retail when you see that grey prices are what 20-40% less, not sure about the numbers as I don't follow these models at all, but they do loose a lot, the two you have don't loose a lot, they gain a huge premium once you walk out the store...

My AD wanted $45k + tax, which is a joke. I called around to other ADs I’ve never bought from and got a few quotes around $37k.

I’m in the northern cal for a vacation and saw one in the Westfield mall near San Jose two days ago, you can call to see if they will do a discount.

i think paying retail on the harder to move pieces gets you the other ones at retail too. I would offer to pay retai absolutely on a 5205 and then ask for something else later and remind them

Did I read that right...that no one would ask for a discount on a "limited" piece? Why wouldn't you?

IMO it makes you look like you don't know what you are doing if its a limited piece as that is a non starter anyway, and the AD prefers people who pay retail.

All things being equal if you buy a lot of watches from an AD at retail (limited, hard to get, and unpopular) then you are more valuable to them then the guy with the exact same watches but got discounts on a few.... who gets that 5711? The retail guy. Depending on what you want, paying a little more for some watches saves you money in the long run by getting hot watches at retail and not having to go to the secondary market.

I cant imagine asking for a discount on a 5522 LE when that was announced for example. You would look foolish.

Yes you have to be very careful with what you say at an ADs now as they are analysing your every word, as a few ADs have told me once I passed their test, it's like dating now and girls checking if you're a serial killer or worse a serial flipper.

Just be patient. The watch will sit for years at that price

5205G tiffany beautiful in every way. Understated, contemporary, classy. If you can get it at a discount do it.
Moved ahead of my 5711 blue and 5712r as of late.
