What measures are being taken to prevent this from happening again in the future?

I am sure they have addressed it in the last 3 years since Steve posted that.

Is this just one isolated incident 3 years ago? This happens frequently in all forums it seems. Just curious.

Here is a good example of what they do. Lets say you are selling a strap or watch and a member in good standing sends you a PM or email and says Im having a problem viewing your post with Tapatalk about your strap for sale is this the link to it? www.xxxxx.xxx You see its a good member with 500 plus posts and good feedback because you check first before you respond. So you click on the link and it takes you to a page that looks just like the Rolex forums. Oh but wait you have to sign in to see if its your post he is talking about. So with your guard down you sign in and now they have your login info. He or they take over your account and try to sell something on the forum before they are caught.

Its very hard for the mods to keep up with these scammers but they do a good job. Just don't ever click on a link someone sends you even if you think they are a good member because their account was probably hacked.

Still getting them today it seems, the person only has five posts and his messages won’t go through due to his inbox being full, might be part of this scam.

Got one in an email reply to a sales listing I have. “Buyer” asked me to confirm that a link he posted was actually my listing. When you click on the link it looks like the TRF login page.

Philip Gates was the name on the email that I just posted about as well and it was the exact same text in the email as on yours.

If you are reading this post, please be aware that Steve (our omnipresent leader) has enabled 2-Factor Authentication to the TRF server. This allows you an extra layer of security.

See: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=747721
to activate it for your account.

Whew. I thought it was a scam and I was racking my brain to figure out how they executed it. Sounds good! Thank you.

Wow, I must say I almost fell for this scam today. I was doing a google search with "rolexforums" as a keyword and it brought me to an identical copy of this site. I clicked on an attachment link and it required a login. I use lastpass and it didn't auto-fill the site, so I wondered what was going on. Only then did I realize the URL was different, not just different, but VASTLY different.

I just enabled 2 factor auth, but honestly think this needs to be made mandatory for anyone participating in PMs/buying/selling. I didn't see this thread until I was actively looking for it..

I keep getting am email that someone is trying to log into my account. I have received 3 so far and it is not me. Do you block the user trying to access at any time?
