Two wristbands. That'll confuse em.

ibtl. If you're worried about getting robbed just don't wear a watch.

I still think it is funny that people think that they are invincible, and a robbery will not happen to them. There are so many examples of people getting mugged every day (or worse) that it is just common sense to at least be aware of the problem.

It is well known that you do not want to attract attention to your self to much, do not go wearing your LV clothing with your RM watch in the middle of London or Amsterdam. We have specialized gangs over here that will follow you home, beat-up your girl and you just to get to your watch.

A couple of examples: HERE

So, get insured (really), buy a good (Grade III or better) safe, rent a locker in the bank and be aware of extraordinary risk-full places

For the rest: Live your life without to much of a worry or do not buy a 10K+ watch

There was a post about some guy that tossed his watch on the roof of a subway restaurant when someone tried to steal it

Don't wear a knowingly expensive piece of jewellery when you're in an inappropriate area
unless you're up for discussing with someone why you deserve it more. You can mask things sure. But the crux of it is, know your surroundings. 5k or whatever the value is life changing to many people. They want it more.
I'm sure you are aware of the inequality and current situation of MN. Some parts will not be wise to wear that type stuff

Life lesson whenever you live.

Isn’t that what a phone is for?

I’m with those suggesting insurance + awareness of surroundings. On some occasions, I’ve put away my watch in my pocket and rolled up my sleeves to show I’m not wearing one.

Having presence of mind in a situation is ultimately what matters - giving up a 2k or 20k watch is better than potential outcomes.
Stay safe.

A sweatband stuffed in the pocket would bring more attention than a Rolex on the wrist.

The best course is to wear the right watch for the right circumstances. If you're going some place that you are unfamiliar with and has a reputation for being sketchy, it's better wear a Timex than a Rolex.

Situational awareness is smart, but unless you're in a combat zone, you're probably looking to relax and no matter how alert you are, skilled thieves know how to distract you for the two seconds it takes to overpower you.

As far as insurance goes, it's not a bad idea, but no amount of money can replace a watch that has sentimental value.

Just don't take unnecessary chance.

My post is not meant to offend, but address the issue at its societal core.

) Law abiding citizens changing their behavior to accommodate criminals is a CHOICE.

) Individuals that legislate and administer laws are a CHOICE.

) Place of residence is a CHOICE.

When in doubt do not wear a good watch. Now you have no worries. Sweat band is just silly IMHO.

For that reason alone, I would 100% recommend JM! Also super cheap.
