Which would you choose?

NIB Submariner 14060M Z-serial w/papers, etc. from LawrenceB on TRF - asking $3800+ship

Used Submariner 14060M F-serial w/ papers, etc. from LawrenceB on TRF - asking $3000+ship

Used Submariner 16613 TT w/ black dial (U-serial, ca. 1998ish), no box or papers, from a local individual seller that I found on craigslist and who claims to be the watch's third owner - asking $3900

I'm having trouble deciding, and I'd also like to know your thoughts on which one might be the best bang for the buck, taking into account that I may consider selling/trading to upgrade in the future.

By the way, don't worry about authenticity issues of the craigslist watch - I plan on meeting the guy at a Mayor's Jewelers for an appraisal.

I would get one the of the 14060M's. The history on the 16613 is unknown and there are no B&P's included with it.

The TT Sub is selling low, if it is authentic and clean..

The F series is already near the bottom of pricing, so it will likely not fall further in the near future..

Buying a Rolex because you may flip it later is not the best deciding factor... If you don't get the one you want, then you will certainly flip it.... Get the one you want and keep it for the best value..

I'm partial to the TT, for the money, but my advice is to get the 14060 F. Pocket the extra cash. I've got the 14060, and it's a great looking sport model.

If you work in an office, that TT works really well as a sport/dress version. Enjoy yourself-- you've got three good choices.

Well the Z and F non date subs are the same movements, only difference a case date stamp. The F from September 2003 till april 2005 the Z May 2006 july 2007 dates are approx.Myself would choose the F 14060M and save $800 its possible only a years difference between the two 14060M,most TT watches dont hold there prices as good a the S.steel models.

On the F-serial 10460M, is it worth offering the seller a couple hundred bucks less than asking?

Is the Z 14060M a COSC version? The only difference betwen it and the F may be whether or not it has the COSC print on it. The only other thing to consider is that an F may be about ready for a service. Based on that, if both are non-COSC, I would offer the seller somewhat less than the asking price.

I agree. But if you like the ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX on the inside of the case go for the newer Z.

My personal opinion is the F series is best bang for the buck.More likley to lose money on the resale of the Z series than the F in the future. I'm not a big fan of the TT and it's probably fair to say that there are more people like me than not in the market (liquidity is a big factor when thinking about watches you may sell later). The most important thing of all is to buy the watch you want the most so that you won't be reselling it in the future.

how about if you willk just find a subdate used 16610.. you can get it for 3,800 good condition..im not a fan of no date sub and the tt 16613 is 11 years old plus nio papers and box. I won't risk myself in purchasing that.. But with your 3 choices there i'll go with the z series.. but u can get a 16610 for 3800 good condition, just a lil older model maybe f series or down...

The TT is a very good price if all is good with it.

The F has bottomed out and would be a good buy.

The Z COULD end up being a very short production run. COSC.

Agree with Art. COSC could end up collectible since it's only recently had that badge and may end up disco'ed with the sub for the new sub ceramics. Also Lawrence B is a known seller. it will be as decribed.

not a fan of the no-date sub and would most likely opt for the TT.

I'd go for the F and use that 800 to save up for another watch. F and Z doesn't have much differences to dish out 800 more.

I made an offer on the F.

LawrenceB was asking $2995+ship, I offered $2900 including ship (we're both in FL). Awaiting response.

Me, I'd buy a non COSC ND if available. F or Z makes no diff.

Personally, I'd buy from Lawrence. He's a good guy, you won't have to worry about getting a real Rolex sent to you.

Also, personally, I'd go for the $3000 F series. Same watch as the Z, save the $800.

Thanks for the fantastic input, everyone. I heard back from LawrenceB today, and some other lucky joe got to him before I did and now owns "MY" 14060M!

I called the guy with the TT just out of curiosity because I WOULD buy it if the price was right. I know $3900 is a good price to begin with, but I don't feel like spending the extra grand, so I figured I'd ask if he'd come down. He won't budge a nickel, and coincidentally, he ended up telling me that he doesn't NEED to sell the watch, but wants to sell it so he can get himself a SS Sub instead!

So, the search continues for a 14060M. Hopefully one of the reputable sellers here on TRF - DavidSW, LawrenceB, bodybump, etc. - will come up with one soon.

Thanks again.

Sounds like it would have only cost you $95 for a great learning experience.

As luck would have it, LawrenceB just posted another pre-owned 14060M, this one a Z-series, asking $3550+ship. I made an offer. The dream is still alive!

No brainer.......the F and send it for a service = $3,300 for a like new!!
No Papers = not worth $2,800, unless it is M or newer and you can verify its authentic. Plud LawrenceB is good guy!!
