Daytona Owners - Do Your Knobs Come Loose?

Probably too personal a question... but getting back to watches my Z series is about to go in for it's two-year check up at the AD. I use the Chronograph quite frequently, probably at least a couple times a day. I'm always careful to screw down the push buttons, (activators), but lately I've noticed they have come loose on a regular basis. I don't over-torque them when I screw them down, could they be getting worn already? After only two years? Is there anything the watchmaker at my AD can do about it?

I'm a little concerned, maybe paranoidely so (is that a real word?), for the simple fact I'd like the watch to be as secure as possible against dirt, moisture etc. From what I understand, (correct me if I'm wrong Larry), the pushbuttons are still water-tight if they're loose, as long as you don't activate them. Still... I'm a bit un-eased by this. Anyone else have this problem?

This thread title gave me quite a chuckle... FYI never had the knobs come loose on the TT Daytona I wore for about a month before it sold.

The screw down serves no function except to keep the pusher from being pushed...

It is simply a knurled nut that rides up and down on the threads - it has no gaskets or washers and doesn't "seal" against the case....

Nope.

Two year check-up? Why? For a once over?

Try some Loc-tite.. as Larry said there is no sealing function to them, otherwise Rolex would have put some cute little 904L lockwashers on them. By the way, congrats on using yours. I'll bet a HUGE proportion of them never get turned.

Mine are secure. Good thing you're having it looked at by the AD Paul.

Paul- no problem with my X Serial Daytona pushers coming loose.
I'd say that a watchmaker could give you a good idea of the cost to replace the pushers if for some reason that it is necessary. The movement will have to be removed if the pushers are replaced so the cost for this job will be about 1.5 hours of labor plus parts (I'd guess $200 ea. pusher) If it bothers you I'd go ahead and get it fixed. Good luck!

Also a Z serial here, and I do notice they come loose sometimes. Luckily I heard it is OK to swim with the pushers open, but only about 10ft. If anyone can chime in on this I am all ears (this way I can stop being paranoid as well in case I go swimming)

My AD extends the warranty from Two years to Three years, but they require yearly checkups or it's void. So, it's going in for the annual!

hmmm...

I always wondered about this, I LOVE TRF!

I have never owned a Daytona, but I have tried them on and played with the knobs (what guy would not play with the knobs???) My concern was being a daytona owner would lead to 3X paranoia that the watch was not water tight. Whenever I change the time on my GMT, I ratchet down the little crown until my fingertips can not budge it anymore.

I think your knobs require to be checked by AD. Solution should be simple

I keep mine hanging out most of the time so i have easy access. They have occassionally retracted by themselves from rubbing against stuff though.

Just a question Larry , if I may . It of course stops them from being pushed , but would it not be dangerous to push the buttons when submerged ? If so , would the pressure by the water at certain depth not push them inwards when not screwed down properly ?
