Incoming Hodinkee Speedmaster

I just picked it up from my boutique.

I really quite like it in person. It is funky for sure, but super well executed and really rather charming. Love the arabic lumed indices.

I am honestly not sure what I am going to do with it though. I just got a call that they have an Ultraman for me, if I want it. Literally two hours after I picked up the Hodinkee. I really like the Ultraman.

It is still actually even in the coffin as I was originally unsure what I wanted to do.

I just didn't want to pass it up considering how limited it is, and because I really like it. So I suppose time will tell.

I will post pics as soon as I get chance.

Congratulations on the pick up. Of course, if you want to sell it and get the Ultraman, the Hodinkee will easily sell for more than you paid.

Awesome. Looking fwd to the pics.

If I was you, I’d keep it. If you like the ST2 get that as well. I suspect as an investment the Hodinkee will do better than the ST2 being only 500 produced.

I actually quite like it.

Of course, if you really want to get rid of it I’ll take it off your hands at list price.....

Hey Super. Congrats! I’m awaiting mine from Hodinkee direct. Not sure what to do with it either. It’s definitely a unique piece in the speed master line up, and definitely polarizing. One one hand, I like the colorful touches (especially on the brown strap that Ben Clymer posted on his instagram recently). On the other hand, it does look a little all over the place. At the very least it’s a conversation piece that is different from your typical speed master, just wish it was a speedy pro iteration.

Thanks guys.

Here’s one pic. Not yet going to try it on, as I still don’t know what I’m doing. And I want it to remain perfectly BNIB.

But I really like it. My wife appears to love it. And heck being this limited, it’s pretty awesome to have.

I hate being one of the crowd. It’s one of the reasons I’m currently anti Rolex. The more I look at it, the more it appeals to me.

I really like it and, like you, I do prefer things that are a bit unique. If you love it, I say keep it. Save up and add the ST2 down the road (you should be able to find one easier than the HODINKEE release).

It’s all tucked away in the safe. But I can relate to this request.

I’ll get one for you ASAP.

Great watch and tough call for certain Seth. You know the TRF answer is to get both!

Seth, can you discuss how it is in person vs pics? Impressions of “blue/grey” dial, cohesiveness of colors, size? Is it more of a summer/spring piece in your opinion or a year rounder? Would you wear it with a suit or pretty much casual? Thanks!

I like it and think that it is a keeper. I also like the Ultraman and if I had the chance to buy one at retail I would be all over it. I do think that the Ultraman looks great on the metal bracelet and so would this watch. It would be fun to have both, some straps and a bracelet, and wear them.

For all the reasons you stated, it seems like a no-brainer to keep, Seth, but if there has to be a choice, personally, I think I'd go for the Ultraman.

OP, you make a decision on whether or not you are keeping it?

I still don't know.

I really like it a lot.

BUT, I am right now rotating between a PP 5726 and an AP 15400. I have a hard time choosing which one because I want them both on my wrist perpetually.

So this little sucker is sitting in the safe. I suppose time will tell. Right now, I am just enjoying the fact that I have it.

Well, I’d just keep it in the safe for a while then. It’s time will come. I certainly would not get rid of it right now given it’s a 500 piece run. It would be pretty hard to get back if you decided otherwise.

Agreed.

No plans to get rid of it. Time will tell.
