Question: How do you feel the Tudor North Flag stacks up (in general and alongside an Explorer 2) as an expedition watch? I am interested in a 'do-all' tool watch and would appreciate an opinion from someone with such impressive field experience.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

I think the north flag is great, not tried it on though. I'd rather have the explorer..

I've just bought this though...

Oyster perpetual 34 MM white dial.

Ah, it's an OP not a sub... congratulations and looks terrific! Where will the first adventure be with this new piece?!

I’m embarrassed cuz all my watches are in pristine condition and no significant story to tell except encounter with toilet knob or gate... Here’s my two Explorers with 0 exploration under their belt.

Great!

If you decide to go strap-style like Hillary, the Hirsch James straps are cool, because they're leather on the outside, but rubber underneath, so you can wear them anywhere, from the shower to the ocean to dinner.

Earlier this year I decided to sell my beloved Yachtmaster, realizing that I’ve always been a pure tool watch lover, the Yachtmaster felt a bit too dressy and far from what I was actually looking for. I decided to move on and ended up with a Submariner, a timeless classic watch, love the brushed bracelet, the bezel and its zero f’s given concept. I recently took it on a trip to China and wore it all the time, couldn’t be happier. I think you have taught me the truth about watch collecting, love what you do everyday and choose the watch that shares the some love. Even though I don’t dive, the Submariner is perfection for my lifestyle, from the office to the beach and everything in between. Also, you’ve inspired me to get leave my comfort zone more often, explore more, maybe I won’t get to the North Pole, but I will be traveling and enjoying this planet and what it has to offer more, of course, with my Submariner on my wrist. Thanks again! Hope to hear soon from you.

Hardly I think! I don't really do expeditions any more, apart from consultancy work....

I run my wife's livery yard following her death two years ago.

Sorry to hear of your wife's passing, I only got to about page 22 in the event it was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Hey, later in the novels Dirk heads up NUMA and is the field much less

Very cool stories and history. The allure that brought me to Rolex was their expedition/tool watch history and I think the 5 digit references (which are my favorite) are the last of the references to truly embody this spirit.

I just read the whole thing in one go!

Wow, it's funny that those watches (explorer II) never did anything to me and now it makes me almost want to buy them. (But I guess that's what marketing is also doing to you, only this is the real deal)

So great to have these stories with your watches!

I also looked into the new OP white dial, but 39mm as the 36 I didnt like. Never for a minute i thought about the 34mm but seeing them pop up here at the forum they don't look small at all.
Maybe I need to give it a try!

Again, Thanks!

Thanks for posting an update Steve and bringing this thread to my attention. I just read through every page. What a read it’s been. Just incredible stuff.

I think you’ve actually brought to light a few good points about watches like not worrying about the small stuff. You buy a watch that you like and that works for you. I think it’s too easy these days to obsess over the smallest of details. You see so many posts about minute little details. So the new philosophy I’ve taken from this is just buy whatever calls me.

Anyways I must get ready now. My mate is taking me on my very first sailing trip out in the Arabian gulf so that’s my little bit of exploration for the week.

Hi Steve,

I work in the outdoors too. Spend most of the winter leading clients on ski touring trips in the Scottish Highlands. Best part of my job by far. My Explorer never leaves my wrist. Massive respect to you for all the amazing expeds that you have been on/lead.

Steve

I read this thread a while back, and it brought my wife and I both to tears. I read the entire thing to her.

Thank you for sharing the beauty of your life with us.

As a request, would you post a picture with all your watches? That'd be a great update for us who have followed you along the years.

Warm regards

Carlos

Hi Carlos.

Thank you...

I'd rather I reduced you to laughter!
